WHY SHOULD CHRISTIANS BE SOUL WINNERS 1. Because they may be— a. By a happy and consistent life, Ps. 4 0 :3 ; 1 Pet. 3:1. b. By direct teaching, Ps. 51:13. c. By both life and teaching, 1 Cor. 7:16. Wisdom essential, Prov. 11:30. Can be had, Jas. 1:5. 2. Because such become F ath ers of the excellent of th e earth , 1 Cor. 4 :15 ; Ps. 16:3. 3. Because it is the g reatest and best work. The man who saves human life is esteemed the g reatest benefactor of our race, Jas. 5:20. 4. Because it pays well— Each soul won is a jewel, Mai. 3:17. Each jewel of more value th an the world, Matt. 16: 2 6 . W hat an immense revenue to the kingdom of our Master, therefore, must only a few bring. 5. Because w ith perseverance success is certain, Gal. 6 :9 ; John 15:16; Mark 9:23. 6. Because it is the most Christ-like work, Matt. 9:13; Luke 19:10; Acts 10:38; John 17:18; John 13:15; Eph. 5:1, 2. DEATH AND THE LORD’S COMING CONTRASTED 1. Death is th e penalty of sin, b u t th e Lord’s coming delivers from sin and penalty, Rom. 6 :23 ; 1 Thess. 4:17. 2. Thoughts and experiences of the one, painful; of th e other, delightful, John 11:31; T itus 2:13. 3. In one event we look downward and weep; in th e other, upward and rejoice, John 11:35; Phil. 2:16. 4. In one th e body is sown in corruption and dishonor; in th e o ther it is raised in incorruption and glory, 1 Cor. 15: 42, 43. 5. In one event we were unclothed; in th e other clothed upon, 2 Cor. 5:4. 6. In one a sad separation of friends; in the other, a glad reunion, Ezek. 24:16; 1 Thess. 4:13, 14. 7. We en ter into rest a t death, bu t we are crowned at the Lord’s coming, 1 Thess. 4 :13 ; 2 Tim. 4:8. 8. Death comes as our g reat enemy; Christ as our g reat friend, 1 Cor. 15:36; Prov. 18:24. 9. Death is th e king of te rro rs; Christ is the king of glory, Job 18: 14; Psa. 24:7. 10. Satan has the power of d eath ; Christ is the Prince of Life, Heb. 2 :14 ; Acts 3:15. 11. In one event we depart to be w ith Christ; in the other, He comes to us, Phil. 1 :23 ; John 14:3. 12. Christ and th e Apostles never commanded saints to watch for death, bu t repeatedly for th e Lord’s coming, 1 Cor. 15:51; Matt. 25: 13. We may here see th a t th e frequently assumed resem blance between these two events is strik ing ly unscrip- tu ra l and false. We Should also understand th a t the practice of applying parables, instructions, and exhortations to death, which we know were expressly spoken of the Lord’s coming, is a false and dangerous method of in terp retation , Jer. 23:28; Rev. 22:18, 19. — E. P. M. SEVEN WHOSOEVER« OF SALVATION 1. “God so loved the world, th a t he gave his only be gotten Son, th a t whosoever believeth in him should not perish, bu t have everlasting life” (John 3 :1 6 ). 2. “Whosoever d rinketh of th e w ater th a t I shall give him shall never th irst; but the w ater th a t I shall give him shall be in him a well of w ater springing up into everlast ing life” (Jn. 4 :1 4 ). 3. “Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before th e angels of God” (Lk. 12 : 8 ). 4. "To him give all the prophets w itness, th a t through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive rem is sion of sins” (Acts 1 0 :43 ). 5. “F o r th e scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be asham ed” (Rom, 10 :11 ). 6. “Whosoever believeth th a t Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (1 John 5 :1 ). 7. “Whosoever will, let him take the w ater of life freely” (Rev. 22 :17 ). — J.
