(Rom. 14: 19, 21; 1 Cor. 10:24, 33). Admonishing one another. (Rom. 15 :14 ). How are we treatin g Him? And His friendship? Are we keeping our promises to Him? Are we confiding to Him the secrets of life and thought? Are we trying to please Him? Do we tell Him th a t we love Him? Are we tillin g our friends of Him? (Mark 5 :1 9 ). Are we ashamed of Him? Are we eager to defend His name? Do we value His friendship enough to suffer for Him? Are we de sirous th a t the g reatest possible honor and praise and glory should come to Him. Matt. 11:19; Luke 6:32-38; Luke 7:45; Jas. 2:23; Prov. 17:17; 18:24; Zech. 13:8. A MISSIONARY HEN Those members of the K ing’s Business family who “ be longed” in March, 1923, will remember an exceedingly in teresting sto ry of a “m issionary hen” , which appeared in th a t issue. The story was sent to us by Miss E lizabeth De Young of the Ceylon and India Mission of a native worker who wanted to contribute something to th e work of the Bible In stitu te of Los Angeles in re tu rn for The K ing’s Business which had been sent to him from our Missionary Fund. He finally bought a hen and from h er eggs and chickens saved $ 1 .00 which he sent to us. But the end is no t yet. Ju s t recently we received an other le tte r from this native worker, enclosing ano ther dol lar. Thè le tte r itself, w ith its quaint English and beauti fully simple faith, has been such an inspiration to us th a t we are passing it on to our readers, praying th a t it may be th e means of giving a fresh vision and inspiration for ser vice to many of God’s dear children: D ear R ev. It is well for th e local society to keep in touch w ith the work of its denom ination. Some of the denom inations have a m issionary program for th e ir Christian Endeavor So cieties and each society is assessed so much each year, being made responsible for eith er some m issionary’s en tire or partial support, or in m aintaining a school or hospital. This inform ation may be obtained from th e pastor, denom ina tional magazine or your m issionary society. Get names of individuals or work th a t your society helps support and w rite to th e field. Get in direct touch w ith the work. Assure them of your in terest and prayer. Find out w hether the work is definite, evangelistic and founded on the whole Bible. As intercessors and givers you have a rig h t to know how your money is being spent. In terest is greatly stim ulated, intercession is encouraged and gifts increased by an intelligent knowledge of the work and its needs. So, Endeavorers should know something of th eir denom inational work. The one hope of th e world is the Lord Jesus Christ and it is our business to spread His Gospel as far and as fast as possible. The command of th e Lord to go and w itness for Him ought to move every Endeavorer to action. The certainty th a t men outside of Jesus Christ are lost ought to grip the h eart of every Endeavorer. The challenge of th e g reat un- evangelized portions of the world ought to stir the h eart of every Endeavorer. The calls for more m issionaries to tell the old S tory th a t come from every country and people ought te cause every Endeavorer to say, “Here am I, send me.” Psa. 126: 5, 6 ; Isa. 6 : 8 ; Dan. 12:3; Jno. 15:16; 17:18; Acts 1 :8 ; Rom. 10:9-17; 2 Cor. 5 :20 ; 2 Tim. 4:2, 5. Every characteristic of real friendship was manifested in the earth ly life of our Lord. Accepted th e ir hospitality. Was w illing to be m inistered unto. (Luke 10 :38 ). Loved to be w ith them (Jno. 11:3-5). Acknowledged them be fore others. (Jno. 11 :11 ). Would go any distance to aid them. (Jno. 1 1 :8 ). Faced death to go to His friends in th eir need, (Jno. 11:8-16). Sought friends in th eir sor row. (Jno. 1 1 :17 ). Sympathized w ith them. (Jno. 11 :35 ). Gave them b etter th an th ey sought. (Jno. 1 1 :4 3 :4 4 ). Loves them. (Jno. 1 5 :9 ). Chooses them . (Jno. 1 5 :16 ). Cleanses them . (Jno: 1 5 :3 ). Abides in them. (Jno. 15:4, 5, 7). Desires joy for them . (Jno. 1 5 :11 ). Desires fulness of joy for them . (Jno. 1 5 :11 ). Calls them friends. (Jno. 15 :15 ). Makes confidants of them. (Jno. 15 :15 ). Answers th eir prayers. (Jno. 15 :16 ). Lays down His life: (Jno. 15:13): Sticks close to them (Prov. 18 :24 ). Died for them. (1 Jno. 3 :1 6 ). We see th a t He wants His friends to have th e very best-—th e g reatest hindrance to the realization of this de sire is the friends themselves. The following verses describe friendship— Love one an other. (Jno. 13:34; 15:12; Eph. 5 :2 ; 1 Jno. 4:11, 20). P ray for one another. (1 Thess. 15:25; Heb. 13 :18 ). Bear one ano th er’s burdens. (Gal. 6 :2 ). Help one ano ther in JULY 6 , 1924 In His Steps: How Jesu s T reated F riends (Consecration Meeting) Luke 10:38-42; Jno. 15:13-15
