Changsha, th ink first of th e students. They come from all p arts of the country and from many denom inations, but they are gathered here for one purpose, to learn how to serve. Can you imagine the power th a t may flow through these lives in th e years to come if you help to pray them through th e ir problems and tem ptations now? Perhaps one scarcely needs to h in t th a t the next g reat need in connection w ith the school has to do w ith th e staff. We will not enlarge on th is though t bu t perhaps the teach ers, (Chinese and foreign) need your prayers almost more than anyone else. But you may no t have though t of th e th ird need for prayer in connection w ith our school. And th a t is the g rea t Christless population of th is city. One of the g reat est feautres of our school work is the practical experience th a t the students get in dealing w ith souls. J u st th ink of the revolution th a t may be accomplished in th is city through these students if you pray. There is every variety of sin and human need here. Oh, th a t our students may feel th a t there is every meausure of grace w ith God to meet th a t need. The Nanyoh Autumn B ible Conference And the th ird featu re of the work is th e Nanyoh Autumn Bible Conference. And th a t needs prayer the year through though th e Conference itself only lasts for th ree all too sho rt weeks in September. Nanyoh is not easily accessible and therefore long prayer and planning are necessary, and frequent disappointments are encountered in th e m atter of securing speakers. God has been wonderfully good to us in th is respect and we have always had a strong corps of speakers a t the conference. Please join us in prayer th a t it may be so th is Autumn. And we do covet your prayers for the delegates to the conference. God has given us an ideal re tre a t and very suitable buildings; may He help us to bless every life th a t comes under our influence during those th ree weeks. All th e Biola Evangelistic Band workers are there, all the men students of the Hunan Bible In stitu te and delegates from all p arts of Hunan and many of th e other provinces of this g reat land as well. W hat a field for your prayers! One reason for our holding the conference in th a t p ar ticular spot is tfcat thousands of devout bu t benighted pil grims are passing our very door on th e ir way to th e sacred Southern Mountain to worship. This is a unique oppor tu n ity for th e preaching of th e Word by voice and w ritten page. Many of these pilgrim s have already tu rned from idols' to God, but, oh, how many more have scarcely heard th a t there is one tru e God, much less of His Son th eir Saviour! Oh, how g ratefu l we will be if you can take all these subjects for prayer into your reckoning and whatever you do please go rig h t down the list and remember th e pil grims. CONSTANCE M. STEVEN. ^<4. m m SEPARATION The principle of separation, of crucifying worldly ambi tions, of simplicity in worship, in building, in private life, .is— broadly speaking— gone from th e earth. It exists in the lives of a few who are regarded by the charitable as objects of pity, to be tolerated, bu t not taken seriously.*** Meanwhile th e tru e ones, in groups or alone, are being used of God in the calling out of the last of th e elect. God help us to stand for Him a t any cost.— J. P. W. (M innesota).

The Passing of “ The W ord”

A Romance of College Life By Helen Henshaw

The book depicts the wholesome and typical American college girl of today, who with seriousness of character can have as well the spirit of frolic. While the story purports to impart a serious message, nevertheless, there is a certain trend of humor through the pages. The college girl’s rhapsodies on flowers and amusements, and typical friendships that are formed, lend to the narrative a naturalness which is in every way pleasing and appropriate. Interwoven is a love theme, by no means complex, but adding a certain charm to the volume. The dialogue throughout is natural and pleasing and the moral and psychological element is strongly marked. An exceptionally healthy story. Cloth, $1.50 Tells the old, old story of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus but tells it in an entirely new way. The questions dealt with are of vital interest to every being. Their treatment is illuminating, enthralling, persuading. All through, this volume tingles with spiritual fervour and strong sound common sense. It fascinates and fills with reverent delight. Each chapter teems with telling illustrations, and compels you to read on to the last word. There is not a dull page in it. Just the book you need to put into the hands of intellectual unbelievers.
