These Walls Lyrics by Emma Donoghue and Una Roulston with music by Brian Ratcliffe to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Wesley-Knox United Church – November 3, 2024. Verse 1 “The OSCO Team did an awesome job on Virtual Gathering: Mario the Music Production work, Eric did a fabulous job on MCing, Amanda Silent Auction, Sam coordinating our Virtual Vendors, Nicole on vinettes, Deb and Dave for their support and Gordon for sorting out the finances. Shayne and Monica provided the Village Ride, ReForest London gave away trees and Growing Chefs provided a wonderful Tea for Two Takeaway. Also this year we encouraged the community to unplug with two scavenger hunts and purchased gift cards from our business community to provide support”. Funding was provided to Community Projects, Herb Boxes, Tecumseh Cookbook, South Collegiate Awards, YOU Another long night – another day – One week and then the next ticks by. Seasons turn in their own sweet way, The years will take their own sweet time. Over centuries of weather, Down the changing generations, We’ve always had to place our trust in These foundations. Chorus These walls stand – So far, so good These doors open – One at a time This roof holds – With a little help This glass makes rainbows of the light. Verse 2 Lightning strikes, the steeple burns. Mend and patch, repair, rebuild. Rain, sun, ice, the season turns. Plates get emptied, then refilled. Decades of routine disasters, Waves of desperate migrations. We keep on choosing to place our trust in These foundations. Chorus These walls stand – We build them tall These doors open – Throw them wide This roof holds – Keep it high This glass makes rainbows of the light. Bridge Knock, knock, knock – Do you hear the knocking? That’s the world knocking at this door Stomp, stomp, stomp – Do you hear the footsteps? The feet of the world walking on this floor Chorus These walls stand – They’re made of voices These doors open – Let out the song This roof holds – Lifted by music This glass makes rainbows of the light. 760 Hyde Park Road, London www.gordonsgold.ca 519-473-3988 CELEBRATING THE SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN YOUR LIFE 760 Hyde Park Road, London | www.gordonsgold.ca | 519-473-3988 760 Hyde Park Road, London www.gordonsgold.ca 519-473-3988 CELEBRATING THE SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN YOUR LIFE CELEBRATING THE SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN YOUR LIFE 760 Hyde Park Road, London | www.gordonsgold.ca | 519-473-3988 Page 14 Wortley Villager • December 2021 CamillaDER.indd 1 CELEBRATING THE SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN YOUR LIFE CELEBRATING THE SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN YOUR LIFE ‘Green’ with thanks to the City of London, Friends of the Civic Garden Complex, Baseline Nurseries, Parkway Gardens, Van Luyk’s, Sue Baker, Sherry Masse, Rikie Schieven, Ben Porchuk and Veronika Bauer and to Jessica Robertson for the design and her the entire family with planting. The Legend of Cramps MacGonigle The Legend of Cramps MacGonigle is the first book written by author and long-time Old South resident J. Bruce Parker. The quirky character in Bruce’s short story is based upon his 30 years of back-country camping and canoe tripping. The book is illustrated by Cynthia Walters and published by Moon Raven Publishing. Christmas in the Village and the Christmas Market back this year!” said Margaret. OSCOR Award to Gemmell Neilson OSCO recognized volun-
teer Gemmell Neilson for her coordination of volunteers for the Christmas Trees sales for a number of years. Gemmell also welcomes Vendors to the Gathering on the Green each year. She is also a volunteer for Museum London. A lover of rescue dogs and you will frequently see her walking dogs for neighbours. Thank you, Gemmell!
The author assures me that although published in 2021, copies are still available for $15 at Tuckey Hardware or directly from the author at hayjoe55@gmail.com. Bruce also suggests that the book makes a great Christmas gift for those who are inclined to camping or anyone who enjoys a good fireside story. All proceeds go to The Secret Handshake, a peer-to-peer support group in Toronto which assists those dealing with schizophrenia. Bruce is a frequent contributor to the Wortley Villager and the ongoing biographer of Canadian poet/painter bill bissett. “All they want for Christmas is You”
