Alaska Miner Journal, May 2025

A Message from Carin Currier, Projects and Communications Manager

Dear AMA Members and Friends, Carin here, your Projects and Communications Manager, stepping in for Deantha this month. As I write my first column for the AMA Journal, I want to share some exciting developments and insights from our communications front. Effective communication is the backbone of our Association. Over the past few months, we’ve been working diligently to streamline our communication channels to ensure timely and relevant information reaches you. I hope you all have had a chance to read my weekly emailed AMA staff report, Rock Talk . It covers everything from national mining news and Alaska’s current events to upcoming key dates to know. It’s been a blast gathering news and stories to share with our wonderful members. If you have an event or story you would like highlighted, please don’t hesitate to reach out. For the last year, AMA has been actively trying to ramp up our social media efforts. It’s important to share mining news, but we’re really focused on highlighting member achievements, sharing more from the field and keeping our finger on the pulse of legislative happenings. It’s been rewarding to see more interaction and engagement from folks across the state and beyond. If you haven’t already, find us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, and give us a follow! Of course, not all updates are easy to share but the outlook for Alaska mining is strong. With record-high gold prices and an uptick in production forecasts, added to a favorable look at reasonable mining policy, we’re on track for what could be an amazing year not only for the mining industry, but especially Alaska. It’s a testament to the grit, innovation and resilience that defines our industry. On a more personal note, when I joined AMA, I didn’t come from a mining background. I had a lot to learn, and quickly. I discovered almost immediately that this industry is full of some of the most passionate, hardworking and innovative people I’ve ever met. The technical side of mining is impressive, no doubt, but it’s the people who make it truly remarkable. Whether it’s longtime operators

who have dedicated their lives to responsible resource development or the next generation stepping into the industry with fresh energy, the sense of pride and community is unmistakable. It didn’t take long for me to feel at home. I am just very thankful. As we navigate the evolving landscape of mineral development, our focus remains on fostering transparent communication, advocating for our industry’s interests and celebrating our collective successes. Your feedback is invaluable, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and suggestions with me. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to Alaska’s mining community.

Warm regards, Carin, Projects and Communications Manager
