Meeting learners’ needs To meet the evolving demands of the business world and the shifting expectations of today’s prospective students, the school has also paid close attention to programme structure and mode of delivery. The MBA, for example, is delivered in a hybrid flexible format known as ‘hyflex’ that allows participants to choose how they study and attend classes. “Most MBAs tend to be in person, online or a blend of the two,” Kynighou notes. “So you might have some elements where it’s face to face and some where it’s online. is that it links industry and academia together.” This entails bringing in external expertise on a regular basis, as MBA director Anastasia Kynighou explains. “Every module has guest speakers from industry to act as conduits between theory and practice, enabling students to learn from their lived experience.” The goal is to ensure students get the best of both worlds during their studies, thereby laying the foundations for career advancement on completion of the programme. “Doing an MBA is about progressing candidates’ careers onto the next level. It’s about building a platform and having real momentum to develop their careers further,” comments Holt.
A new episode of the Leading the Future docuseries highlights Manchester Metropolitan University (Man Met) Business School’s focus on bridging the gap between academia and industry in a city alive with growth and ambition. “There are so many opportunities in Manchester for people to come and study, live and work and of course, a whole set of industries for us to research with as partners,” enthuses Man Met Business School dean Hannah Holmes.
