Per the World Health Organization article, “Blindness and Vision Impairment”, globally, at least 2.2 billion people have a near or distance vision impairment. In at least 1 billion or almost half of these cases, vision impairment could have been prevented or has yet to be addressed. This is an alarming fact as those who are experiencing vision issues don’t seek medical attention until it has evolved into a more severe complication. Ensuring healthy vision should be part of everyone’s preventative care, however in most cases this does not seem to be the case. Many times, the reason people don’t follow up with their vision care is due to not knowing how often their eyesight should be checked. It is crucial to follow up with your doctor to determine a timeline of how often your vision should be checked as follow up is different for everyone. For older adults, sometimes the care that is needed after a visit or procedure is postponed because they don’t have in-home care support. Awareness months are a great reminder for people

The Katie serves as a hub for aging services and a place for our community to discover the array of services that we and our community partners offer to support healthy aging.
