VII. Uniform Dress Code PARENTS assume responsibility for the appearance of their sons and daughters within these guidelines. Purpose The purpose of a standardized dress code is to provide students a variety of dress options while maintaining an educational appearance to promote learning. These dress code standards are not intended to be all encompassing but rather strive for an appropriate level of Christian modesty, decency, decorum and safety, and to allow students from all economic backgrounds the freedom to be themselves apart from the stress of competitive dress. Enforcement It is our expectation that parents and students will cooperate with the school standard of dress; enforcing the dress code is not the sole responsibility of the school. Administrators have the responsibility and authority to apply these general guidelines when confronted with questionable appearance not covered specifically and to adapt the rules as fashion and clothing changes. HCA reserves the right to require that students refrain from wearing or displaying a particular style of dress, makeup, or hairstyle that calls undue attention to them and/or is judged inconsistent with the standards that define the rules and policies of HCA. Please see an administrator if you have questions as to whether or not an item is acceptable. Consequences Students not in uniform will be expected to change into clothing that is within the uniform. When necessary, students will be expected to call home to have a parent bring proper clothing or students may be issued clothing by the school. If the uniform infraction can be resolved by wearing a school issued shirt, students will be offered one. The school will try to maintain a supply of compliant shirts that will be issued to students and the families will be charged $12 on Blackbaud for the cost of the shirt. There is no refund policy. If the dress code violation is such that it can not be easily remedied, as determined by the administration, students may be sent home (after notifying parents). The following is the disciplinary progression for dress code violations each school year. ● First Dress Code Offense ○ Administrator and Parents notified ○ Offense documented ● Second Dress Code Offense ○ Detention issued ○ Administrator and Parents notified ● Third Dress Code Offense ○ In-school suspension issued. ○ Administrator and Parents notified ○ Student will be expected to wear a polo and dress pants for the duration of the semester. Any additional violations will result in further disciplinary action.
