Athletic Eligibility All students participating in athletics must be protected by some form of insurance coverage. All students are encouraged to purchase student accident insurance in August of each school year. Those who wish to participate on an athletic team must fulfill the following requirements: 1. Be consistent in completing classroom assignments 2. Maintain a passing grade in each class 3. Have a positive attitude toward school, your teachers, and fellow students Students who have earned 59% or below in one class during the periods stated below will be declared ineligible and will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular athletics: ● Eligibility is defined as maintaining a passing grade (60% or higher) in all classes. ● Ineligibility lists will be produced at the mid-quarter and end of each quarter as determined by the HCA calendar. ● All tests, quizzes, and assignments of any kind due after Wednesday the week of eligibility checks will not be counted towards eligibility when grades are calculated on Friday. Any test, quiz, or assignment of any kind due on Wednesday or earlier the week of eligibility checks will be expected to be graded and included in the calculated total grade for the eligibility check on Friday. ● Mid-Quarter Dates: A student placed on the ineligibility list at the mid-quarter will have his/her grades checked by noon of each subsequent Friday. If the student becomes eligible, he/she will be notified by the Principal or Activities Director and eligibility will be restored on the following Monday. o Ineligible players are permitted to practice with the team but may not travel with the team to away games and may not play in any contests. o Students deemed ineligible will be ineligible from Monday through Saturday of the week immediately following the ineligibility decision. ● Quarter/Semester Dates: A student placed on the ineligibility list at the conclusion of a quarter/semester will be ineligible for a 2-week period. Since quarter and semester grades cannot be improved, students regain eligibility at the end of this two week period IF they are receiving a 60% or above in all of their classes. If the student has failing grades after two weeks they will remain ineligible until all their grades are passing and will remain eligible until the midquarter check. At that point the midquarter requirements begin. (This is new in 2024-2025).
