HCA Upper School Student/Parent Handbook 2025–2026

Chapel In addition to class devotions and Bible study, all students attend a weekly chapel service. Parents and relatives are welcome to attend any chapel service. The purpose of chapel services each week is to take time from the routine of school, focus our attention on the kingdom of God, and enjoy worshiping Him together as a student body. For this reason, we ask that students remain attentive, sit upright, and not engage in actions that could become a distraction to others. Although chapel does not take the place of Sunday worship at a local church, it is structured as a worship service, and should be treated accordingly. Lockers Each student will be issued a locker for his/her personal use and a combination lock for security. We ask students to keep their lockers clean and organized. Students are not to switch lockers with another student unless first receiving permission from the office. Students may decorate the inside of the locker provided that nothing displayed is inconsistent with the policies of the school. In addition, students may not place items above lockers. Students are responsible for their lock; a $25 fee will be assessed for a lost or misplaced lock. Lockers are the property of HCA and searches may be conducted randomly without prior notification. Backpacks High School students (grade 9-12) are permitted to carry a backpack with them to their classrooms. Each student is responsible for keeping their backpack safely and neatly tucked under their desk. If a student uses their backpack inappropriately, this privilege may be revoked. Middle School students are not permitted to carry a backpack to class; it must remain in their locker during the school day. Lunch Students may purchase lunch or bring a boxed or bagged lunch. All food and drink items must be consumed in the lunch area, during regularly scheduled lunch periods, unless a supervised meeting has been called (such as a class meeting) and students have been asked to bring their lunch to a particular classroom. Microwavable popcorn is not permitted as unpopped microwave popcorn causes a backup at the microwaves and often causes a big mess (burnt popcorn) in the lunchroom and hallways. Lunch period is a “device-free” time for all Middle and High School students. Students are not allowed to be on their phones, iPads, laptops or other electronic devices during lunch.
