who does right (v. 13). Any semblance of harm is only apparent because man cannot touch the soul. The exhortation of this passage is to put God first in the life (v. 15) with the assurance that they who do so will be able to sleep with a clear conscience. “ Be ready always” to witness in harmony with the life within is the way to possess a clear conscience in spiritual service.

Upon being re leased from prison they were told by the angel of the Lord to witness in the temple (v. 20). They must have known that such an action would incur the hos tility of the Jewish authorities but that made no difference to these men of God. Obedience to God was their passion. They would let nothing hinder them from it. Believers ought to be submis sive to authorities in so far as possible. But when authorities ask men to dis obey God’s Word, there is only one right thing for them to do and that is to obey God and forget the demands of men. The Christian’s Public Life and His Conscience 1 Pet. 3:13-16 No real harm can come to the one In Korea: “Operation Kiddie Car” apart from the other parables of the chapter. And, moreover, leaven in this parable does not stand for that which is good but as elsewhere in the Word of God, it is a type of evil. Thus what is pictured in this parable is the inner corruption of Christendom during the present age. It has no bearing upon the theme of today’s lesson, and should be studied with the whole teaching of Mat thew 13 in mind. The Christian’s Public Life in Difficult Times Acts 5:25-29

Memory Verse: “Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God” (Psa. 143:10). Zacchaeus was a wealthy man; he had a good position; but he was an unhappy man for everyone hated him. He used his job as tax-collector to steal money from the people. One day Zacchaeus heard that the Son of God was to pass through Jericho, the town where he lived. Quickly Zacchaeus made his way from his place of business to the crowd ed street. Because he was short, he was unable to see the Saviour. Others hated Zacchaeus and refused to let him stand in front of them that he might see. Perhaps Zacchaeus knew someone whose life the Lord Jesus had changed. He was determined to see this wonderful Man. Quickly Zacchaeus ran to a sycamore tree and climbed up into its branches. As the Saviour passed along the way, He stopped underneath the sycamore tree, looked up at Zacchaeus, and said, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for today I must abide at thy house.” How surprised Zacchaeus was! How amazed were those who heard the Sav iour’s words! Perhaps some of them hur ried to tell the- Lord Jesus what a sin ner Zacchaeus was, and to warn Him not to enter the house of such a hated man! While the Saviour was at Zac chaeus’ home, Zacchaeus was saved. Standing before his new-found Lord Zacchaeus said, “ Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation [falsely], I restore him fourfold.” Then, thinking of those who had criticized Him for going to the house of a sinner, the Saviour said, “ This day is salvation come to this house . . . for the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Doubtless it was difficult for Zac chaeus to go to those whom he had wronged and confess that he had stolen from them and pay back to them four times as much as he had taken falsely from them! Only the new life that the Lord Jesus can give could enable a man to do such a difficult thing. Peter said, “ It is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing” (1 Pet. 3:17). God will always honor those who choose to do the right thing, even though often that may be the most difficult thing to do.
