colors you have. (Place the compass over the region of the boy’s heart. When it comes near a black heart the needle will be deflected.) John and Henry have the black hearts. Open your coats and show the people. If I, an ordinary person, could find the black hearts, do you not think it will be a simple matter for the Lord Jesus to identify those who are unfaithful to Him when He comes? Objects: Six unused correspondence envelopes, 23 bag-shaped pieces of yel low paper and a pair of scissors. (Cut down both sides and across the bottom of one envelope. Discard the irregular half of the envelope, and keep the com plete side that bears the flap. Insert this side and flap in the uncut envelope with the gummed portion in the normal posi tion for sealing. This will make a par tition. Do this with 3 envelopes. String a set of 5 yellow pieces of paper on a thread, about 2 inches apart; on another thread, place 10; on the third, 2; and on the fourth, 4. In back of the partition in the first envelope, place 10 pieces; in the second, 4; and in the third, 1. Now seal the two flaps of each together. The envelopes appear to be empty.) Lesson: These bag-shapSd pieces of paper represent talents, about which Christ spoke in the 25th chapter of Mat thew. In verse 15 we read, “ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one . . . and straightway took his journey.” Here we have 5 fastened together and we will let George put them in the first envelope and then seal it. George, was the envelope empty? “ It did not have anything in it I could see.” August 12. 1951 T alking A bout T alents
We now have 2 talents fastened to gether, and we will let Mary come and place them in the second envelope and seal it. Next I have 1 talent, which we will let Esther put in the third envelope and seal. The 19th verse of this chapter tells us, “After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.” The one who had received 5 tal ents had gained 5, and now had 10. We will cut this envelope open and let George take them out. (Squeeze the en velope so as to open the back compart ment. Showing it appearing empty after talents are removed.) Here are 10 tal ents. To this man, the lord said, “Well done.” We will open the one which re ceived 2. Mary, you may take them out. There are 4. To this servant, the lord
Objects: Two white paper hearts, two black paper hearts, a red cloth and a compass concealed in one end of a card board tube such as is used in mailing certificates. (Make the black hearts by using two thicknesses of paper for each. Before pasting them together, place sev eral safety razor blades between them, causing the compass needle to be de flected when it comes near them.)
Lesson: I brought four hearts with me this morning. Two of them are white and two are black. The white ones are wrapped in this red cloth, representing the blood of Christ which cleanses from all sin. I want four boys to come to the plat form. You boys turn your backs to the audience, and to me, and each take up one of the hearts from the table and place it under your coat over your own heart. No one but you four boys knows the colors chosen. When Christ was upon earth, He told about two, servants and their attitudes toward their master. In Luke 12:42,43 we read, “And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his house hold, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” In verses 45, 46 of this chap ter we are told of another servant, “ But . . . if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maid ens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken. The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him asunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.” People have wondered how Christ will know whether or not His servants are faithful when He returns. Boys, from the outward appearance, no one can tell what color each of you have. I will look in this tube and will be able to tell what
