Awards Banquet Greenville (SC) Alumni Chapter
The Greenville (SC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. held its Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the Embassy Suites on Verdae Boulevard in Greenville, SC. This was the first black-tie event for the chapter since the pandemic. The Awards Banquet began promptly at 7 pm with a Call to Order and Establishment of Protocol by Brother Stanley B. Clinkscale, Sr., the Awards Committee Chairman and Past Polemarch of the chapter. Greetings were extended by Brother Warren M. Smith, a Spring 2023 initiate. Stanley Clinkscale also shared the occasion for the event. Chapter Vice Polemarch, Brother Hassan Pressley, led the introduction of brothers, Silhouettes, and guests. Mrs. Felicia Littlejohn, President of the Chapter’s Silhouettes, gave greetings and reflections from the Silhouettes. Brother Brent O.E. Clinkscale, Event Committee Chairman, expounded on the upcoming Scholarship Golf Tournament
& Louis Golden Gospel Gala with Grammy Winner Rudy Currence.
Stowe, who assisted Brother Stowe in all his efforts throughout the year.
The banquet included a scrumptious buffet meal of fresh dinner rolls with butter, Arcadian harvest mixed green salad with Ranch and Balsamic dressings, fresh fruit salad, Cavatappi pasta salad, garlic encrusted rib roast, tender prime rib sliced and served au jus with caramelized onion and mushrooms, roasted salmon fillet, roasted salmon filet with chervil tomato salsa and asparagus beurre blanc, herb and garlic roasted potatoes, roasted vegetable seasonal medley, assorted desserts, water, tea, and coffee. After the dinner, Polemarch Barnes gave reflections and presented two Polemarch Awards for outstanding, unselfish, and hard work rendered throughout the fraternal year. Brother Joseph Stowe, Principal of Grove Elementary School and Past Polemarch of the Greenville Alumni Chapter, received one of the Polemarch’s Awards, and a second one was presented to his wife, Stephanie
Brother Darryl Williams, Elections Committee Chairman for the Southeastern Province, and Past Chapter Polemarch, introduced and presented the 50 Year Members Awards to two brothers of the Chapter: Brother Robert E. Sweeney (initiated Fall of 1968 at South Carolina State College, now South Carolina State University) and Brother Dr. Rev. Zachary Johnson (initiated Spring of 1972 also at South Carolina State College). Each 50 Year Brother was presented their White Jacket (symbolizing 50 years in the fraternity) and a framed award from Province and Grand Chapter. Robert Sweeney’s brother, Brother James N. Sweeney, also a 50-year member, helped Robert into his Jacket while Dr. Johnson was assisted with his White Jacket by the love of his life, his wife, Sandra Johnson. Both Sweeney and Johnson made remarks after receiving their White Jacket.
