FAST FACTS ABOUT ACCRA • Accra is home to numerous international and local NGOs and is a great location for community service and volunteering. • The Makola market, the heart of the city’s commercial activity, overflows with people, scents and sounds and is a must-see. • Accra is known for creativity from being the home of afrobeats , amazing dances and also having numerous art spaces. Webster Rhymes and Reasons Nights Webster Rhymes and Reasons at the Ghana campus is a night of creativity and free expression. Once every term usually on the last Friday or two before the end of the term, we dedicate a night solely to spoken word, poetry, performances and a night of celebrating the arts. themes have been The Double-Edged Sword of Technology (2018), The Art vs. The Artist /Ethics in Creativity (2019) and Entrepreneurship: Providing Contemporary Solutions to Contemporary Problems (2020, postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19). Eco-Week Eco-Week began in support of the Webster Goes Green initiative which aims to reduce the carbon footprint of the campus in March 2020. After which once a term, we dedicate a week to reducing our carbon print as campus. This may range from eco challenges, zero plastics, zero food wastage, eco-trivia, etc. on campus or at any student life event. Eco-Weeks are also focused on providing better and safer alternatives for the environment so we can draw closer to our goal as an Eco Friendly campus. Overnight and/or Cultural Heritage Trips Central and Western Regions (spring, can be organized in summer or fall depending on demand); Ashanti Region or Northern Region (summer); Market and Arts trip, waterfalls trip (summer), and beach trips planned every semester. The Annual Spring Student Conference (TASSC) The Student Government Association hosts The Annual Spring Student Conference (TASSC) each year in Spring II and features various discussions on topics that affect the youth and society in the contemporary 21st century. As Ghana’s capital city and one of the fastest growing and most diverse cities in Africa, Accra is the bustling beating heart of a West African country well-known for it’s warm and welcoming spirit. Every semester since 2013, Webster Ghana has welcomed a diverse student population of undergraduates and graduates from Ghana, continental Africa, and the rest of the world. Students enjoy small interactive classes of less than 20 students, thus allowing for additional dialogue and debate. The staff is attentive and the facilities are state-of-the-art, both of which will help to shape students into global leaders with an appreciation for the diversity of our world. The Ghana campus offers ultra-modern classrooms, a well-stocked library, a computer lab, 24/7 security, and a student recreaional center, wifi access, a student lounge, and a recreational room. Located in the heart of East Legon, Accra, Webster Ghana is surrounded by a host of businesses, banks, recreational spaces and health centers that serve the everyday needs of students. Students can also experience Greater Accra by enjoying some of the nearby restaurants or take a short trip into the city center to places like Labone and Osu.
