Pre-Departure, On-Site and Re-Entry Services

Pre-Departure Services

Academic Advising and Support Services Students will have access to on-site academic advisors who are available to assist with a variety of academic related issues and provide academic guidance throughout the study abroad program. In addition to academic advising, learning support centers, writing centers, and academic coaching are available in a variety of ways across our campus network. Career Services Career Services works with students to identify and explore opportunities and activities that will help them reach their future career or graduate school goals. Counseling Services Webster University is committed to supporting the emotional and psychological well- being of its community. Personal counseling services are available to all students in a safe and confidential environment. Student Involvement Opportunities The best way to enhance your study abroad experience and integrate into the local campus community is to participate in student activities and there is no shortage of ways to get involved at Webster. Study abroad students have held office in Student Government Associations, traveled to Model United Conferences, played on football and volleyball teams, joined academically focused clubs and attended local and American holiday celebrations.

Application Assistance and Advising The Office of Study Abroad / WINS (OSA/WINS) is available to guide students through the entire pre-departure phase of study abroad. From planning to applying, a study abroad advisor will answer any questions that might come up. WINS students will be guided through the administrative process of the application. Once a student has started an application, our staff is frequently in touch throughout the process and students are encouraged to reach out with questions that may arise at any time. Acceptance Students are notified of acceptance via email after the application deadline. After being accepted students attend an acceptance meeting specific to their study abroad destination. During the meeting, students learn what to expect in the next steps, academics and course registration, housing, flights, what to expect upon arrival and, if applicable, visa procedures. WINS students will receive a link to register for a Virtual Acceptance Meeting within the initial acceptance email. In addition to what’s mentioned above, the Virtual Acceptance Meeting is also the first opportunity to connect with students from other WINS institutions who will be participating in the same program. Orientation All Webster students attend a pre-departure orientation before they leave. The orientation covers important practical information such as health and safety, money, phones, and cultural adjustment. WINS students will have the opportunity to attend a virtual ‘Know Before You Go’ session. This session is not a substitute for any study abroad orientations that are required by a students home institution. Students receive an orientation packet that contains their health insurance card, and member guide, their international student id (ISIC) card, and additional items for their time abroad. This packet will be mailed to WINS students. Both the pre-departure orientation and ‘Know Before You Go’ sessions are opportunities to ask any last minute questions, talk with recent study abroad alum, and connect with other students studying on the same program. On-Site Services Each of our international campuses hold an on-site orientation and offer ongoing support for study abroad students.

Re-Entry Services Resources and Engagement

Students are encouraged to stay engaged after returning home. Study abroad returnee events are organized to give students the opportunity to share and process their experiences. OSA/WINS is always available to provide support and resources for students dealing with reverse culture shock. Study abroad alums are encouraged to stay connected with OSA/WINS by sharing their experience through social media, volunteering at on-campus study abroad events, and/or serve as a peer mentor for other students planning to study abroad. Program Surveys Following program completion, students are administered a survey to collect feedback on study abroad. This information is used to guide programming, to measure and guide quality program experiences. Transcripts WINS Students: Office transcripts are issued by Webster University within 4-6 weeks of the program end date for all Webster international campus programs. Transcripts from our international partners and exchanges can take several months to receive. Transcripts will be sent to the address indicated on the Study Abroad Advisor Authorization Form, which is a requirement in the initial application. Webster will not release transcripts for students who have an outstanding account balance.
