March 2022 TPT Member Magazine

A NOTE FROM SYLVIA

While TPT celebrates all the people who have made – and continue to make - Minnesota a great state, we take special pride in our Women’s History Month programming each March. To honor the contributions of women through the decades, we shine a spotlight on the movers and shakers who have shaped the communities we call home. Even when facing unimaginable hardships by today’s standards, women trailblazers have deftly paved the way for women (and men) to grow, achieve and lead. At TPT, we know history. Stories of our past are woven through many of our programs, and sharing the voices, experiences and impact of Minnesota women is an honor and privilege we take seriously. Minnesota has been home to many women who have achieved historic feats: Our Rights ’ Dr. Josie Johnson, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, the Indigenous matriarchs of Nokomis: Voices Of Anishinabe Grandmothers , Justice Roselie Wahl in Girl From Birch Creek , Olympian Suni Lee, Actor Judy Garland, Dorothy McIntyre in Becoming Big League , Chef Leann Chin, North Star’s Emily Grey, Lena Smith, Ethel Ray Nance and Anna Arnold Hedgemen, and Out North’s Karen Clark, to name a few. Minnesota is also home to a couple of very famous fictious women heroes: Betty Crocker and Mary Tyler Moore. Find these stories at tpt.org/minnesotawomen . We look forward to some wonderful women-led shows in the coming weeks. Call the Midwife , Season 11, and the much-anticipated season two of Sanditon , both premiere Sunday, March 20 on TPT 2. TPT will also premiere its documentary, Bring Her Home , which centers on the epidemic of murdered and missing Indigenous women. We are so proud of the important storytelling that TPT Producer Leya Hale has infused in the urgent issues facing Indigenous communities, and we are eager to share it with PBS stations across the country, beginning March 21 at 8 p.m. on TPT 2. Learn more at tpt.org/bringherhome . Also, check out a list of more Women’s History Month programming at tpt.org/womenshistory .

As always, a warm thank you goes out to all our members. Thank you for your support.

Best Regards, Sylvia Strobel President and CEO, Twin Cities PBS
