, HOW Gob USED THE ETERI CLUB A MINISTER of Los Angeles visiting the Eteri Club not j L x . long ago, told how his nephew had come from an Eastern university saturated with the teachings of “Modernism.” His “Fundamentalist” uncle was a “backnumber” and the nephew would seldom consent to listen to his sermons. Later, during a season of special evangelistic services, the young man was present, went forward, confessed his faith in Jesus Christ, and united with his uncle’s church. In response to the minister’s interested inquiry as to how this change had come about, the nephew explained that the worldly girl to whom his uncle had married him had become a member of the Eteri Club and had had her eyes opened to the truth of God’s" Word. Through her influence he too had found his way to God, and the once despised doctrines he now believed. This young man is now preparing for the ministry, and at the Eteri Club his wife, is faithfully studying her Bible, seeking to become a true helpmate to her husband when he shall have become a minister of the Word of God. — o— ANOTHER BONFIRE OF CULT BOOKS W E read in Acts 19:19 the following words: “Many of them also which used curious arts brought" •• their books together and burned them before all men, and they counted the price of them and found it, fifty thousand pieces of silver.”.—God is still able to lead those who have been going to polluted streams, to give up the literature which has been poisoning their minds. Recently at the close of a Neighborhood Bible Class, a. lady with a very unhappy face desired conversation with the leader. She was led by the grace of God to make a confession of that which had brought on the troubled state of mind and acknowledged that she was in a false cult. The above verse was shown to her with the result that she confessed her backsliding and handed the worker the book that she might burn it. — o — THE .INFLUENCE OF PRINTER’S INK P ERHAPS many of The King’s Business readers are unaware of the fact that the Bible Institute printing department is one of the finest publishing plants on the west coast. The plant is located several blocks from the Institute in a modern building provided with the latest mechanical equipment. Many of its employees are engaged in definite Christian work in local churches. The Biola presses have produced Gospel literature in 24 languages.’1' Nearly 25,000,000 pieces of literature, carrying the message of salvation, and printed attractively in four colors, have been sent to Asiatic countries. Religious literature to the amount of 86,000,000 pieces has gone through the Biola presses. For outside distributors, 315,000 books of Scripture portions have been produced in Spanish, Portuguese and English. These, if stacked, would make 24 piles as high as the topmost wall of the Bible Institute building (13 stories). Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, in Spanish, to the amount of 1,600,000 have been produced for outside distrib- ' utors. These would pile up two miles high. About 125,000 New Testaments in Spanish have gone out, making about 52 piles as high as the Institute building.
SAVED BY A BIT OF WASTE PAPER J ESUS said that the Word of God was like seed. This seed was to be sown upon the soil of human hearts. He said there were four kinds of soil and intimated that a fourth would always bear fruit. This saying of Jesus is proven up to date by an inci dent told by one of the Evening School students of the Bible Institute. He had written a letter to a friend quot ing a few passages of Scripture and making some com ment. The friend read it with profit, then threw the letter into the waste basket. In due time the waste basket was taken to the incinerator on a vacant lot. When it was emptied, the letter blew over the incinerator and fell on the ground where it remained. Sometime later a workman was sent to clear this lot of its rubbish. He saw the letter and read it. The words of God gripped his heart. He looked up the man to whom the letter was written, to find out how he could get in touch with the man who wrote the letter, in order that he might ask this man to show him the way to God. How silently, mysteriously and faithfully God was working for the salvation of this workman. “So shall My Word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” 'Isa. SS :11. HOW HOUSE TO HOUSE WORK IS DONE O NE of the most fruitful fields in service for the Bible Women is the house to house visitation. This is done in an assigned district, or more generally in a section of the city where the worker has a Bible Class or wishes to start one. The worker is going to meet people who are needy and know it not; lonely and discouraged ones, burdened ones, sor rowing ones; people in every walk of life. She will need many ways of introducing herself and great alertness as to which method to use. There are times when it will not be best to introduce one’s self at first. She must get in touch by admiring the beautiful flowers, a baby or child, or even a pet that is in evidence; anything so as not to be shut out. Above all she must get away before they have wished in their minds she would go, even though little seems to have been accomplished. If she can get an invitation to come again a victory is in sight. Follow-up calls are valuable. One needs for this work a loving, friendly feeling for folks —a filling of the Holy Spirit and a quick perception of His every prompting. __o_ A CASE IN EVIDENCE At the close of several hours of what seemed fruitless call ing, it was late and a tired worker debated in her mind about one more house in her block, but finally rang the bell. The door was opened by a sad faced woman. After a word or two the worker put the question directly: “Are you a saved woman?” The reply came, with tears in her eyes, “No, but I wish I were. Will you come in ?” It was not a tired worker any longer, who entered, and when the way was made plain a soul was born again. This led to a Bible Class in the home and one after another of the family saved, and it became a praying home. Who can estimate the fruitfulness of even one call?
