Thinking Matters 2018

The Lower School Progamming Club focuses on practical programming, as applied to robotics.

We continue to enter a number of competitions ranging from the National Cipher Challenge where our team had to decipher a number of increasingly difficult pieces of encrypted text passages from Southampton University through to developing wearable technology for the Raspberry Pi Challenge again. We also entered a winning team with the University of Southern California Hackathon with a pitch for a watch for the visually impaired. These competitions have proved invaluable in allowing boys to work in teams to solve complex, real-world problems, putting into practise all the computational thinking and programming skills they have learned both in the classroom and beyond. ‘This club is so much fun and I am learning a new programming language.’ Dougal, Year 7

‘‘Programming Club links something I enjoy doing by myself to school.’ Ned, Year 11

An opportunity to explore programming in greater depth.

‘This is a really interesting skill for my DoE.’ Oliver, Year 10
