Thinking Matters 2018

LOWER SCHOOL SCIENCE

Lower School Science has recently changed its curriculum and is moving forward with a wide variety of new tasks which include Galapagos Island case studies, separation challenges and electricity puzzles; all of which are designed to get the pupils thinking! One of the main focuses for free learning is the independent investigations that we run three times a year where pupils are asked a question, given some equipment and asked to answer it in the most scientific way apparent to them, often with intriguing results. ‘I love Science Society because in it we get to experiment on different materials. One of our experiments was on slime. We tried to work out if slime was a solid or a liquid. We concluded that slime was a liquid but with the properties of a solid. Thanks to Science Society we get to experience more science and learn all we can from it. Science society is amazing! The future is now thanks to science!’ Benjamin, Year 7

Making new friends in Lower School Science.

Current investigations include: Asteroid Armageddon – How does the size of a ball bearing affect the size of a sand crater and how does this scale up to the size of a real asteroid that might one day threaten Earth? How far underground will the bunkers need to be?
