wonderful opportunity for pupils to be able to witness a formidable intellect at such close quarters. The feedback from pupils who were able to attend this event was incredibly positive and it would appear pupils enjoyed and benefited from having exposure to Dr Vardy’s thinking and wisdom. Seminars included: Ethics Matters! (Year 8), God Matters! (Year 9), Programming Reality (Genetic Engineering and IVF) at GCSE and pupils in Years 12 & 13 studying Religious Studies and/or Philosophy discussed epistemological issues! Pupils were invited to discuss the issues outlined to them throughout each session and in open mic sessions, too. Several Dulwich pupils took the opportunity and made very pertinent comments.

Heading to Stonehenge in the afternoon, pupils had the chance to stroll around this fascinating World Heritage Site. Pupils were inquisitive and intrigued. Year 9 Essay Competition: Could you wake up and find yourself in a different body? The Department of Religion and Theology ran an essay competition in the Michaelmas half-term for Year 9 pupils. The department wants to encourage pupils to critically engage with complex theological and philosophical problems relevant to the world they live in, whilst equipping them with intellectual, emotional and moral awareness, too.

The Year 9 Religion and Theology and Classics Trip took place at the end of the Summer term and among other destinations we visited the Abbey and Roman Spa in Bath, Glastonbury Town and Tor and Stonehenge. Pupils had the opportunity to see so much but here are a few highlights: On the first day pupils toured the extensive remains of the Roman Baths which included having the opportunity to sample the spa’s natural volcanic spring water which was, to be honest, quite an acquired taste and not for the fainthearted. Once in Glastonbury on the second day pupils explored the Abbey ruins with an authentic Saxon-attired guide. Pupils marvelled at the architecture and were engaged in stories of events from years gone by. After an exploration of the Abbey, pupils set off to roam the streets of Glastonbury and were warned to be mindful of the witchcraft and
