Selecting absorbents to recover different liquid types To help users identify which type they need at a moments notice, globally the three most recognised colours are: White - Oily Only, Grey - Maintenance and Yellow - Chemical.
Maintenance Grey or black in colour, and absorbs both water and oil-based fluids at the same time. These are the best choice in most indoor spill situations. Oil-Only White in colour and absorb only oil- based fluids. These absorbent are best used outdoors as they wont recover any water-based fluids. Chemical Yellow in colour, this type is used to recover unknown, corrosive or aggressive chemical spills. These can be used indoors or not.

Absorbent Constructions
The absorbent pads and rolls are available in a range of construction types and weights. How an absorbent is constructed will affect its durability, wicking performance (the rate at which fluid is drawn up in the absorbent) and also its slip-resistance if being used as a floor covering.
Perforated
Perforated
Unbonded Unbonded meltblown is made by simply melting a polypropylene resin, then blowing the resulting very fine fibres to form a continuous mat. The desired weight is accumulated in a single pass, and is then cut into pads or rolls. Unbonded absorbents offer fast absorption but limited durability, these absorbents are not perforated. Unbonded meltblown is only available in an Oil Only format (Not listed in catalogue please ask for more details)
Bonded Bonded is made just like unbonded but in addition is passed through sonic heads. These sonic bond points fuse the fibres together at small points, (the area covered by these bonds is approximately 5% of the pad so it offers some effective lint control). This process makes the absorbent a little stronger, but from an economic view point it can often be better to choose a single laminated version instead.
Single Laminated This is in our opinion the best all-round construction. A sonically attached thin layer of "no-lint" spun-bond material to the top surface of the meltblown core. This greatly reduces the linting, (fibres detaching easily) and improves the strength. When used in a roll format, it has a large advantage of not being as slippery under foot when the meltblown core is placed face down.

Maintenance absorbents are hydrophilic and absorb both oil and water-based fluids at the same time. Chemical absorbents are the same as Maintenance but contain yellow pigment to indicate that they may contain hazardous substances.
Oil Only is the best vhoice for recovering oil-based spills on bodies of water. Oil Only absorbents are hydrophobic and repel water-based fluids but attract oil-based fluids.

MELTBLOWN BONDED ABSORBENTS
Bonded meltblown polypropylene is a very effective absorbent for both oil-based and water-based fluids. The sonic bond points prevent stray fibres from becoming detached. Both pads and rolls are perforated which allows for the correct amount of absorbent to be easily selected.
White Oil Only absorbents will recover just oil-based fluids. Pads and rolls are perforated to allow for more economical use. 100 or 200 bales of pads available, as well as 25 bales of drum top pads.
Grey and black maintenance absorbents will recover both water- and oil-based fluids at the same time. Available in light, medium and heavy weights

BOOM ABSORBENTS
Booms and sweeps are part of the essential equipment to clean up oil in fresh or sea water spills. Our absorbent boom is available in two sizes. 20cm and 13cm diameter, both being 3m long. Absorbent boom is very effective at retrieving and offering some containment for marine based spills. The larger 20cm boom is best for use in open water while the smaller 13cm is easier to handle and quicker to deploy and retrieve. Snap hooks are situated 60cm from the end enabling long chains to be assembled. Custom lengths available upon request.

SECONDARY CONTAINMENT SPILL PREVENTION This regulation applies to any container with a storage capacity of over 200 litres and applies to any industrial, commercial or institutional site e.g. factories, shops, offices, hotels, schools, public sector buildings and hospitals. All types of oil except waste oil are included. A bund has to form a container around the tank capable of holding 110% of the contents of the oil stored or 25% of the total volume, whichever is greater. This is known as secondary containment.
