Netherlands East Indies, November, 21st 1944
Dear Tanta*,
I haven’t written you for a long time, but I know you’ll understand. I hope that everything at home is fine and that you’re all in good health. I was glad to learn that you had taken a little time out for a vacation. As you have noticed I am no longer in New Guinea. Of course, I can’t tell you where I am but, if I could I’m sure the name would be quite familiar. As it is, the days are long and sunny, the nights cool and comfortable and the work ample. Need I say that I am in the best of health? There isn’t much more I can say now but give my best to everyone,
So Long for a while,
Love Herman
