Plan today for peace of mind tomorrow. JUNE 2022
IT’S GRADUATION SEASON SET GOALS AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
The month of June is often an exciting time in many people’s lives. Over the past few weeks and into the next, high school and college students will be taking their next steps after graduation. High school seniors will be preparing to go to college or head into the workforce, while college graduates will take their first steps into the professional world. Graduation is a sign of completion and is often the first major accomplishment that we achieve in our lives. I like to consider myself a completionist and have found that I’m very accomplishment-driven. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an educational- driven accomplishment or acknowledgment either. The simple act of setting a goal, making a plan to complete it, and putting that plan into action until the goal has been accomplished helps me feel incredibly productive. Goal- setting can be highly beneficial in our day-to-day lives. When was the last time you truly felt accomplished? If it’s been some time, are you still setting goals and working toward completing them? I’m always working toward my next goal. Once I meet it, I quickly set another so I can continue to work toward improving myself or my business. If you find yourself feeling unaccomplished on a daily basis, try setting some goals and see if your focus and motivation improve. If your goal is to pursue higher education, then definitely give it a try. I’m a huge believer in higher education and think that it is a great investment in yourself if you feel it is what you’d like to do! When you graduate and earn your degree, the experience is something that nobody can ever take away
from you. For example, you can’t lose a degree in a divorce. It’s your own personal achievement and accomplishment.
I think that most everyone has something to gain by attending an institute for higher education, but it can mean even more for women. Pursuing education gives you self-sufficiency; you can be independent if you need to be. After earning my degree, I didn’t have to depend on anyone else. That’s why I think higher education can help many other women feel more confident in themselves. I often hear women say that they don’t believe in themselves and would not succeed if they pursued their dreams. Sometimes they refer to college; other times, it is another dream. There’s nothing particularly extraordinary or special about me, and if I was able to succeed with higher education while following my dreams, anyone can do the same. You simply have to make important decisions. Is it something you want to achieve? If so, make a plan to get it done!
June is a big month for graduation and starting a new chapter. If you feel that your book is a few pages too short, consider chasing your dreams and pursuing something you’ve always wanted to do. Remember your passions. If you set the proper goals, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.

PROTECT YOUR DIGITAL LEGACY Leave Behind a Path for Your Loved Ones
When creating an estate plan, there are many assets to consider. Most people think about their homes, retirement accounts, and heirlooms, but one vital thing is often overlooked: their digital lives. Today, we manage so much of our personal lives through digital accounts, and a username and password combination safeguards our activities and keeps our data secure. Two-factor authentication — a second step to logging in — keeps our data even more secure. But what happens to this data after you pass? Will your family know how to access it and therefore log in to your most valuable accounts? How can you make sure the right people have access to your passwords and digital data without making yourself vulnerable? And is this necessary? Find out below! Create a digital log. You must keep a record of all your digital profiles and login information for your loved ones before
you pass. You’ll help your family avoid having to jump through hoops with various companies just to retrieve your data after you’re gone. Anything from the cable company to your bank login needs to be recorded. Then, be sure to tell your family this information exists and how to find it. Use a password manager. Because passwords are necessary, companies have created password managers to keep all of your login information secure. But not all
managers are alike. The most secure options are cloud-based managers, which allow access from any location, and those that require two-factor authentication, which may use a fingerprint or a code sent to the phone number on file. There are many password managers to choose from, so start by doing your own research. Wired recommends 1Password for those just starting out! Talk to your attorney. If you opt out of using a password manager, an estate planning attorney can incorporate your digital logins into an estate plan. This will keep your data secure and accessible by those who need it after you pass. And even if you do utilize a password manager, it’s wise to notify your estate planning attorney. They will become your family’s go-to resource for guidance after you pass. As with any action you take regarding your estate plan, consult with a professional you trust before making a decision.

We experience grief for many reasons throughout our lives, which is most notably related to losing something or someone important to us. Examples could be the loss of a family pet after living a healthy and long life or moving away from a house that you lived in for many years. Of course, there’s also the most difficult loss, which is that of a loved one. It’s normal to experience grief after any of these situations, so it can be beneficial to take some time to grieve in a healthy manner. Keep in mind that people should allow themselves to process their grief in whichever way they may need to. Your grief does not adhere to anyone else’s timeline. People tell us that “you’ll get over it” or “they’re in a better place,” but these sayings don’t often soothe people. On the contrary, they can make things worse. In our experience, we’ve talked with many widows who share that their kids have told them when it’s time to stop crying. However, if you ever lost your life partner, you should be allowed to cry and feel a certain way. Your behavior is a testament to the importance that your loved one held in your life. When it comes to grieving, you want to be as gentle as possible, especially in the early days. Take whatever time you need and don’t put yourself in situations that may be too difficult until you’re ready. It can help to discuss past memories of what you lost with someone who understands what you’re going through. In a way, it can be an uplifting moment to reflect and reminisce about shared memories and experiences. While grief never truly fades away, you can walk away from the experience feeling empowered. You’ll slowly realize that you can continue on with your life despite your loss. It may never be easy but you’ll be stronger as an individual for navigating the grieving process.
