King's Business - 1918-11

T HE K I N G ’ S BUS I NE S S the workings of the Spirit with Jacob bringing him to repentance ere he fell asleep X believe we would learn a new chapter of God’s goodness and loving kindness to the children of men. (Have •one of the girls read 107th Psalm, call ing attention to the number of times that it speaks of the goodness of God and His wonderful works to the chil dren of men.) Jacob’s dream that night was none other than a vision of Jesus Christ. Christ is the only ladder between ¡heaven and earth, between God and man. (1 Tim. 2:5; John 14:6; Gen. 28:16). The “ Lord” in small capitals ■or “ Jehovah” in the Old Testament is “ Jesus Christ”- in the New Testament. A ladder is only of value provided it will reach the desired height and support the load it is expected to carry. Will Christ, the ladder, do this? The side rails must reach from earth to heaven, and the rounds must be strong enough to bear the weight of all con fessed sins, the load of supplies for the need of God’s saints and sufficiently comprehensive to teach us the funda mentals concerning Christ. Jesus Christ as God left His home in glory, came down to earth; was manifested in the flesh, and has been received up again into glory. (1 Tim. 3:16; John 1:1; Phil. 2:6-11; Eph. 1:20-22). I think none will dare dispute the length of the ladder. Christ Jesus as tlie ladder, has Eight Rounds, stepping stones from death to life, from sinner to saint, from earth to heaven, and she who would come to -the fullest present joy of knowing Him most intimately must step and stand on every one of these rounds. None can be omitted. They are: His pre-existence— that is, His •existence before being revealed in the flesh, His existence in the beginning with God (Gen. 1:26) “ Let us make,” (Jno. 1 :1-3); His humanity, a man ¡born of woman, Is. 7:14, Jno. 1:1; Jno.

991 l:14,-^one necessity of recognizing His humanity is that we may better appre ciate His ability to understand us, Jno. 5:27, Heb. 4:15; His deity——the Word was God, Jno. 1:1, Jno. 10:30,— it is impossible to intelligently study the life of the perfect man, Christ Jesus, without going one step further and see ing in Him more than man, Col. 2:9; His atoning death, 1 Cor. 15:3, Gal. 3:13, 1 Tim. 2:6, 1 Pet. 1:18-19,— it is said that one of every forty-four verses in the New Testament deals with His death; His resurrection, 1 Cor. 15:4-8, Matt. 28:6, Luke 24:4-6, Rev. 1:18— Christianity is the only religion that bases its claim to acceptance on the resurrection of its founder; His ascens ion and exaltation, Acts 1:9, Eph. 1: 20-22, Phil. 2:9-11; His present indwell ing life in the believer, Jno. 17:22-23, Gal. 2:20, Phil. 1:21; His coming again,, Acts, 1:10-11, Jno. 14:1-3, 1 Thess. 4: 13-18; Titus 2:13. Christ and Christianity are synonym ous. These eight rounds in the ladder are the fundamental facts of Christ of which Jacob’s ladder connecting heaven and earth is a type. Do not allow this lesson to pass without drilling your girls thoroughly on these fundamentals of Christ and I urge you to have them draw a ladder in the back ,of their Bible with these eight rounds and copy the scripture under each. If they will memorize them so much the better. The Holy Spirit will use the lesson to keep them from dabbling with false teaching in future years. Jacob Running Away From His Angry Brother.
