These Old Testa­ ment ordinances regarding foods and drinks and holy days were “ a shadow of the things to come,” i. e., of the great truths to be revealed in Christ (cf. Heb. 8:5; 10:1), “ but the body (l. e., the substance of which these Jewish ordinances were but shadows) is Christ’s.” Christ is the substance of which the Old Testament ordinances were shadows.
