#204 | For Everyone Who Takes Care of Everyone Else: Accessing Your Own Tools

Cl Bu

Behavioral health professionals are trained to create safety for everyone else. You all know this. You can sit through an entire conference, earn your CE credit, and still go home with mental health struggles of your own. Sound familiar? We’ll look at why behavioral health professionals are often the last ones to use the tools they teach, and how we might go about doing things a little differently. Kat Atwell is a keynote speaker and mental health educator with over 20 years of lived experience with bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. With her diagnoses comes an equally long career of figuring out how to be professionally functional about it. She helps teams have better conversations about mental health at work and beyond, while continuing to work on herself. Shout-out to all the therapists. #205 | Division of Fire and Prevention and the World of BHEs Prepare for your next Life Safety Survey with expert guidance from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. This session will cover practical strategies, common compliance pitfalls, and proven best practices to help healthcare facilities maintain compliance, enhance patient safety, and confidently navigate the survey process with greater success and readiness. Walk away with actionable insights that can help protect your facility, your staff, and the patients who depend on you every day. Pete Anderson, FI-III, CLSS-HC is the Acute Health Care Unit Chief for the State of Colorado, bringing over 26 years of dedicated public service to his role. He leads the team tasked with regulatory oversight of Colorado’s hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and behavioral health facilities, ensuring safety and compliance across the state’s healthcare network. Craig Montoya (FI-III) is a Plan Examiner/Inspector with the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), serving since 2019. Holding multiple ICC and NFPA certifications, he developed DFPC’s Fire Prevention Branch training program and contributed to the agency’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan. Craig also played a key role in restructuring Colorado’s Health Care Rules adopted in late 2025, drawing on his extensive background in healthcare facility maintenance, commercial development, and construction management.
