Southern Cross taps Ciena for trans-Pacific 800G working

Australasian international capacity provider Southern Cross, is planning to deploy Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) technology as a key part of the Southern Cross (SX) NEXT expansion plans from Sydney to Los Angeles. The use of WL6e technology in NEXT will allow the implementation of 800 Gbps wavelengths across the single 12,500+km span, providing reliable, energy efficient, and high bandwidth connections

to support offerings such as the recently launched 400GbE services from Southern Cross. “We have a long-standing history with Ciena, and their strong history of innovation and deep understanding of our business needs have continued to be instrumen- tal to our success. SX NEXT cable is a high-performance system and the first phase of the replacement of the original systems by 2030. Today, we’re once again an- nouncing what is expected

to be another networking world first, implementing Ciena WaveLogic 6 on SX NEXT to help us push the envelope in terms of high- speed bandwidth connec- tivity and energy efficiency,” said Laurie Miller, president and CEO, Southern Cross. “The Southern Cross NEXT cable is key to the transpacific cable eco- system, contributing to improved network perfor- mance across the Pacific region – all on top of Ciena GeoMesh Extreme tech-

nology. Southern Cross has always looked to Ciena for the latest innovations to gain a competitive advan- tage. With this upgrade to WL6, Southern Cross will be able to provide customers with unrivalled connectivi- ty, allowing them to enjoy applications and services of up to 800GbE,” said Dino DiPerna, Senior vice presi- dent, Global Research and Development, Ciena. Southern Cross’ 400G service over its NEXT cable went live in July 2022.

ACOME expands European FTTH market with LYNDDAHL purchase

French telecom infrastructure specialist ACOME Group has completed the acquisition of Danish microduct manufacturer LYNDDAHL Telecom, as it aims to become Europe’s leading provider of connectivity materials for high-speed fibre networks. LYNDDAHL Telecom is a manufacturer of ducts and microducts for FTTH projects, telecoms companies, energy companies and installers. Since its creation in 2020, LYNDDAHL Telecom has seen a rapid growth in sales with more than €20 euros of turn- over in 2023. The partnership will bring together LYNDDAHL Telecom’s employees and of- fice in Ribe, Denmark – where its products are developed and sold, with ACOME’s existing locations in France, United Kingdom, Italy and Germany and other countries outside Europe. Later this year, LYNDDAHL Telecom is also set to open a new facility in North Carolina,

Coherent Corp., has introduced new members to its WaveShaper family, extending the performance and the wavelength range of these instruments. The WaveShaper® 1000A and 4000A (pictured) are programmable optical processors operating in the U-band of optical com- munications. They support generation of arbitrary filter shapes in attenuation and phase over a large wave- length range that extends beyond 1650 nm. These instruments are used in forward-looking lab environ- ments to support research on wide-band multi-wave- length transmission exper- iments for future high-ca- pacity optical networks. The WaveShaper® 500B is a programmable optical filter that can generate arbitrary filter shapes in attenuation over the Super C-band from 1523.53 nm to 1573.301 nm. This instru- ment supports develop- ment and production of

United States of America. The integration of LYNDDAHL Telecom into ACOME Group’s portfolio – which also includes ACOME cables and Idea Optical connectivity products – means that it can now offer cables, ducts and connectivity creating a complete end-to- end fibre connectivity offering for the European market. “We are delighted to wel- come LYNDDAHL Telecom to the ACOME Group family as an innovative and success- ful company in the sector,” said ACOME Group CEO, Jacques de Heere. “This is a key strategic move as we grow to become Europe’s leading provider of connec- tivity materials for high-speed fibre networks and meet the heightened demands of the fibre optic supply chain. Unit- ing our customer network and sales teams will give the Group a huge boost to market our solutions internationally and also expand our presence in Germany, the United Kingdom and the Nordic countries,” de Heere continued.

components and systems for the upcoming optical multi-wavelength communi- cation systems operating in the Super-C Band. Coherent says the trans- mission spectrum in optical communications over trans- port networks continues to broaden to accommodate the growing demand for bandwidth. The new Wave- Shaper instruments from Coherent are capable of testing optical components and networking systems in the U- and Super C-bands. “We continue to expand the capabilities of our WaveShaper platform in response to strong cus- tomer demand,” said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Chief Marketing Officer. “These instruments offer a powerful combination of functionality, flexibility, and cost-effective- ness, empowering research- ers and engineers in optical communications to push the technology boundaries, now including in the new cutting-edge U-band.”
