Growing Together With You

As kids, we all said the Pledge of Allegiance. But did we understand what it really meant? Similarly, when we fell in love the first time, did we really understand what love was? As Americans, we are all taught to love our country. But without ever experiencing Washington, D.C., with people you love, do you really know what that means? For the first time in my 58 years, I recently toured the nation’s capital with my family. We were visiting my son Nick at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and we all agreed to take an Uber over to Washington, D.C. The air was crisp and clear, and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. Everybody who lives in America should have the opportunity to see Washington, D.C. I promise you, if you do, you will fall in love with your country again! We visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Capitol building, and the World War II Memorial. We also saw the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, which depicts three nurses caring for a wounded soldier. That one really touched me. I have a daughter who is a nurse practitioner and a daughter-in-law who is a physician’s assistant. And, of course, Savoring the Awe-Inspiring Beauty of Washington, D.C. Monumental Pride

my son Nick’s enrollment at the Naval Academy represents direct service to our country. I was struck by an awareness of how millions of people’s sacrifices brought us to where we are today. No matter who you are or where you’re from, if you walk among these monuments and take a few minutes to think about our forefathers and others who came before us and made this country great, you will be proud to be an American. Visiting with people you love just deepens that experience because you get to talk with them about what these memorials and monuments mean. I was glad to be able to remind us all: Never forget that a lot of people came before you to give you the opportunities you have today. My parents sacrificed a ton for me to get the education I received. My wife’s parents sacrificed to make sure she had a wonderful education. And my wife and I have sacrificed to give our children a better education and life foundation than either of us had. That’s what we do as Americans. We put our children and our future first because of all the blessings we have received from the people who came before us.

Happy with our service? We’d love to hear from you! We are always honored when our clients and associates refer their friends, family, and colleagues our way — or simply say kind things about our firm. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know. We’re here to help!

HOW TO SAVE MONEY AND PROTECT YOUR FAMILY Why Is Car Insurance Rising?

Why Deductibles Are Higher: To keep premiums down, insurers offer higher

Car insurance premiums have been increasing for several reasons:

• Accidents Raise Rates. Being at fault in an accident can increase your premium by up to 49%. Insurers see you as a higher risk. • Inflation and Repairs. Rising costs for vehicle repairs and replacements mean higher premiums. • Location Matters. Living in areas with high traffic, accidents, or crime rates leads to more expensive insurance.

deductibles. Choosing a higher deductible plan is a trade-off: You’ll have lower monthly payments, but you’ll pay more if you file a claim. If you raise your deductible, put some money away in a savings account, just in case you need it for a claim.

To lower your car insurance premiums:

• Drive Safely. Avoid accidents and tickets for lower rates. • Raise Your Deductible. Higher deductibles lower monthly costs but require more out-of-pocket if you file a claim. • Bundle Policies. Combine auto with home or renters insurance. • Shop Around. Compare rates regularly, but don’t reduce your coverage. • Ask for Discounts. Safe driving, low mileage, and installing safety features can qualify you for savings.

Remember to always have the best auto insurance you can afford to ensure you’re fully protected. At The Dellutri Law Group, we offer free insurance checks! That’s right! Send us your policy, and we’ll review it to make sure you have the right coverage in place. We won’t try to sell you anything. Don’t wait until it’s too late. You cannot buy more coverage after a collision! Let us help you stay covered and confident on the road!

Support Medical Progress on National Donor Day As many readers know, my daughter is an M1, which means she’s in her first year of medical school. She recently called home so excited. What’s the news, we wondered? Twenty cadavers had been donated to her medical school! Now, she and her fellow students will have the opportunity to — for want of a better term — open them up. I have always been an organ donor. But now that members of my family are entering or working in the medical profession, I realize how much it means to these future doctors and nurses of the world to study the human body in such detail. It made me think about how Leonardo da Vinci made his most famous sketch of the human body, “Vitruvian Man,” showing the anatomy of a human body in two positions, superimposed one on the other. Da Vinci created that iconic image in part by examining corpses. Training for medical students these days is so much more advanced. Not only are they taught to heal the body, but also the mind and the soul. In support of their work, I would encourage everybody to become an organ and tissue donor or to donate their bodies to science. After all, we’re all going to die one day. One of the best, most unselfish things we could do is to donate our bodies for medical research or education, or to provide an organ, eye, or tissue to somebody who might need it. Who knows? That recipient might be the one who comes up with a cure for cancer. More than 100,000 people are currently on the waiting list for organ donations, and an estimated 17 people die each day for want of a donated organ. Register to be a donor at DonateLife.net , or sign up to donate your body to science at ScienceCare.com . The benefits from your participation may be the best thing you could ever do for others! THE SCAMMERS ARE OUT THERE Met Somebody New Online? Beware!

Many people will be looking for love as Valentine’s Day rolls around this month, and finding a new romantic interest online can be exciting. Be careful. If something sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is. Romeo may be a wolf in sheep’s clothing, waiting to take your money! We have had several clients and friends come to us lately complaining about online dating scams that have hurt them badly financially and emotionally — and even broken up families. Nearly 70,000 people reported romance-related ripoffs to the Federal Trade Commission in 2022, with total reported losses reaching $1.3 billion. After stalking you online, these scammers often pretend to have a lot in common with you and to want the same things, including marriage. But they typically dance around any efforts to meet in real life — perhaps by pretending they are stationed on a faraway military base or working on an offshore oil rig.

thing. While staying home and isolating yourself can become a way of life, we

humans are a social tribe. We need others, and others need us. It’s in our DNA. As individuals become more and more isolated, they are more vulnerable to scam artists. Plenty of people out there are willing to take advantage of your niceness and goodness. Scammers often claim they need help for someone close to them who is sick, hurt, or in jail. Others offer to teach the victim how to invest or ask for their help with an important delivery. While online dating platforms are common points of contact, other crooks reach out on social media such as WhatsApp, Google Chat, or Telegram. If someone solicits you and claims to have a heart-breaking need for cash, or offers what seems like a fail-safe get-rich-quick scheme, beware. Remember what your mom taught you: Beware of Stranger Danger. The scammers are out there!

Many people spend more time these days talking to people online than actually meeting face-to-face. This can be a good thing or a bad
