It gives me immense pleasure to start our first share of KI bon NEWS at SLTR. We will take a tour of the key happenings around the Resort whilst sharing with you the commendable efforts of our Hidden Heroes behind the scene. From the worst to the best, all happened with a team spirit of all colleagues at SLTR. The COVID-19 downtime made us face challenges but with the zeal of our colleagues (who are also our key assets) we have been able to turn this critical moment into an unforgettable positive reality for everybody.

A story about CMT learning which turns into reality

It all happened during the first week of September 2020.

The CMT members at Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa were convened for a learning session around responsiveness of fire outbreak, which is also known as the Crisis Management Team training. A table top exercise was conducted by the Director of Safety and team members were exposed to a situation to activate response during a fire outbreak. With the proper guidance provided all participants could practice the communication process of a real fire situation. During that period of time, a film industry crew team was present at the Villa of the Hotel and a shooting was ongoing. Only few days after the CMT learning session, on 09 September 2020, the SLTR team had to face a real crisis. Unfortunately, the roof of the iconic Villa caught fire. Would that create a panic? Yes and No. Those colleagues onsite had to face the fire for the first time and a panicking situation arose. However, that moment of goosebumps was just for few seconds, as all ERT team members present on that day gathered together to fight the unforeseen circumstance. A great team effort was exerted by all ERT, CMT members and key colleagues present.

Sharing my experience as a firefighter

Saif Lagan, the Service Associate in Fire Life Safety, was one among the colleagues who bravely faced the fire outbreak at the Villa 400. In his statement Saif says: “Pu mw premier fois mo in experience 1 situation kumsa. Zordi c grâce a nu ban drill ki nu in kner ki bizin fer dan 1 situation pareil mem si 1 2 place nu pa in resi ale daprès procedure mai ki ti bizin le cas. Mo remercier tou dimun ki in don coup de main mem ban madam osi e ban ERT members. Mo fier nu ena 1 lekip kumsa: #shangrilafamily” With the proper training received and the number of drills covered so far, Saif could proudly say that the ERT team were ready to face the crisis. The Food & Beverage and Maintenance team have been providing continuous support in ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the F&B outlet. Hand in hand our key projects are being actualized thanks to all team members. Some key highlights involved:

 Cleaning and redoing part of the structure at Le Bazar

 Cleaning of all umbrellas and Cushion covers

 Polishing chairs

 Painting of Beach Kiosks

 IAM renovation project

Other key projects with our internal Hidden Heroes

We always need to see the two sides of the coin.
