Together, we can build a brighter, healthier future.” Youth Prevention Services UMADAOP Lucas County has a long history of providing comprehen- sive, evidence-based, long term community focused prevention pro- grams for children, families and adults. The programs work with parents, teachers, faith institutions and other community stakeholders geared to provide information dissemination, education, drug-free alternative activities, community-based processes and referrals. The programs have goals and objectives aimed to reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, (ATOD) provide education to help parents set clear expectations and monitor children, teach children how to cope with peer pressure, adopt positive conflict management strategies, and enhance family bonding. After school and summer activities are provided to offer evidence based pro-social activities for youth. The after-school and summer programs include recreation and entertainment and personal social development programs, particularly those aimed at educational enhancement, increas- ing self-esteem and cultural awareness, alcohol and drug avoidance, and helping youth to increase their ability to cope with stress and manage social problems. COMMUNITY PREVENTION SERVICES At UMADAOP Lucas County, we’re committed to offering comprehen- sive, evidence-based prevention programs for individuals and families. Our long-standing initiatives collaborate with parents, educators, faith institutions, and other community partners to promote awareness and education around alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Our goals encompass reducing substance use, empowering parents, aid- ing children in resisting peer pressure, promoting positive conflict reso- lution, and strengthening family bonds. Our universal, family-centered programs aim to guide youth towards positive relationships and a future free from risky behaviors.
Our prevention initiatives, executed by our team of specialists and community partners, focus on building resilience to avoid substance use disorders (SUDs), understanding the risk factors for developing SUDs, and fostering healthy family dynamics to strengthen parent-child relationships. Suicide Prevention Suicide is a serious public health problem that can have last- ing harmful effects on individuals, families, and communities. There are many factors that contribute to suicide.
