The Genesis of Akron UMADAOP

Akron UMADAOP's inception can be traced back to the early 1980s, a time when substance abuse was ravaging communities and disproportionately affecting minority populations. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, a group of visionary community leaders, counselors, and activists joined forces to establish an orga- nization that would address this crisis head-on. Their dedication resulted in the birth of Akron UMADAOP, a grassroots movement with a determination to heal and transform. Objectives The core mission of Akron UMADAOP is to provide comprehen- sive, culturally-sensitive prevention, treatment, and recovery ser- vices to individuals and families affected by substance abuse. The organization's objectives include: Prevention: Akron UMADAOP is committed to preventing sub- stance abuse through community education, outreach, and aware- ness campaigns.
