Oscar Harcourt – building a career on and off the sprint car track

H urtling towards a raceway corner at extreme speed, sprint car racer Oscar Harcourt revels in the rush of exhilaration while navigating the tight circuit. A Jacobs House Old Boy (2016– 2020), Oscar, 20, regularly races on the South Island circuit in his 900hp, 600kg sprint car,

assembled by the multi-talented apprentice builder and his biggest supporter – and father – Martin Harcourt. “I am a third-generation race car driver and a first-generation College student,” Oscar explains. “I loved my time at Christ’s College. I would say they were my

golden years. Today, I sometimes think ‘what I would do to go back to school right now’. When I was aged about three, Dad said that I walked past College and commented ‘I would love to go there when I am older’. I think it became Dad’s goal to send me to the school. I was very fortunate.”
