Henry’s work often finds a commercial outlet, with various media sharing its power. He also undertakes commercial ventures, seeing the value in “hosting’ clients in his Brooklyn studio, and creates tailored images for a range of food and environment- focused books. Growing up in Christchurch, Henry
soon growing his own “service” industries. “It turned out school wasn’t about finding a career path but assembling many pieces that would make my foundation to grow from.” His first ‘service venture’ was his distillery, set up in a spare bedroom at home. “I sold wine and distilled spirits to College boys for parties,” Henry
says. “It was a side hustle and as I was doing accounting, I convinced Mum it was legit as I was doing ledger transactions in real life. I also hosted poker afternoons at home prior to Chapel on Sunday evenings and organised fireworks wars on either side of the stream at the University of Canterbury. However, I always had that moral compass regarding limitations.

school remains as close today.” After completing his Bachelor of Arts in Film and American Studies at the University of Canterbury, Henry headed overseas. While backpacking around Thailand, he was offered modelling work and soon found himself on the catwalk for leading fashion houses such as Gucci and featuring in campaigns for Givenchy and Prada. Ranked as one the best male models in the early 2000s, Henry realised he preferred to be on the other side of the lens. While learning his new craft of photography, he worked in bars and restaurants, relishing the personal connection of food. Today, Henry has a stake in two New York restaurants and a cafe. However, creativity remains his focus and discovering what next will bring joy to his life. “As soon as you start doing things just for money, it is the beginning of the end in the creative world. I stay firmly focused on the value in the next project.”
