Join Our Team to Walk Towards a Cure IMAGINE A FUTURE WITHOUT ALZHEIMER’S AND FIGHT FOR IT!
About 6.7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s in 2023, and the number is even expected to grow. In fact, experts estimate the number of people over the age of 65 with Alzheimer’s will surpass 12.7 million by the year 2050. I do not want these numbers to scare you but instead empower and motivate you. We are in desperate need of a cure for this disease — and you can join the Eagle & Fein team at the Indianapolis Walk to End Alzheimer’s to raise funds to find one! On Saturday, Sept. 30, you can find me and my team at IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium for the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Founded by the Alzheimer’s Association, this walk is the largest Alzheimer’s fundraising event in the world, with over 600 communities participating throughout the country. I could not be more proud to participate in this event that raises money to support the much-needed research to find a cure for this heartbreaking disease. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s also fundraises for the costly care of those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, which countless families struggle to afford. If you do not already know, Alzheimer’s is an issue near to my heart because of my close friend, Mike, who is now in the late stages of the illness. It hurts
more than I can express to see him becoming less and less himself. Experiencing the deterioration of Alzheimer’s firsthand is not easy, and my heart goes out to you if you have witnessed the same in your friends and family. Everyone is welcome to join us at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, including loved ones, survivors, caregivers, and supporters! We need all the participants we can get to show our support. For survivors and loved ones, there is nothing more inspiring than seeing their community actively supporting them and their well-being. When you show up to the walk, you are inciting hope. That is why the Eagle & Fein team will always get their sneakers on and walk for those struggling with Alzheimer’s. Our team makes this journey every year and I still cannot believe how much we managed to raise at last year’s walk! I remember feeling unsure about our daunting goal of $30,000. Yet, the Eagle & Fein family was able to raise $53,000 and become the top fundraising team for the Indianapolis Walk to End Alzheimer’s. It was an incredible accomplishment that we could not have done without you and the rest of our clients, friends, and colleagues. Now, we hope we can come together to make this year an even bigger success!
While a donation can be life-changing to those with Alzheimer’s, I hope you also go beyond clicking the donate button and come out on Sept. 30 to join us. We can all come together to walk, celebrate those who are giving back, and remember all those who have suffered. To join our team, donate, or learn more about this year’s
Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scan our QR code. This event means so much to me and others who have experienced the damage of this disease, and I sincerely hope to see you there!
The first 20 individuals who register to join Team Eagle & Fein, make a donation, AND attend the Walk with us on Saturday, September 30th will have an exclusive opportunity to join us at Brains & Bagels on October 11. We will take a tour Indianapolis’ Stark Neurosciences Research Institute. This will be an incredible chance to hear timely updates from leading global researchers right here in Indianapolis! – Brian Eagle 317-726-1714 1

PARENTING FOR RESILIENCE: EMPOWERING YOUR CHILD’S MENTAL STRENGTH
Parents want to raise kind, happy, fulfilled, and resilient children. And while thousands of parenting books discuss changing diapers, nutrition for growing tots, or even the ins and outs of a child’s brain, few resources exist to help parents raise mentally strong children. Before going any further, defining what “mentally strong” means is essential because teaching a child something you don’t know yourself is nearly impossible. What is mental strength? BetterUp, the world’s largest mental health and coaching startup, defines mental strength as “the cognitive and emotional skill of reframing negative thoughts and adverse circumstances.” Essentially, it’s a child’s ability to “turn that frown upside down” in a healthy way all on their own.
Mentally strong children also experience less stress, more motivation, and increased adaptability. They’re better at viewing challenges and setbacks as temporary roadblocks instead of end-all-be-alls, and they can self-soothe in times of fear or anxiety. By internally reframing negative emotions, mentally strong children will grow to become adults who are more connected to their true selves. They are more motivated to push through anything that may stand in their way. So, how do you raise mentally strong kids? The answer is simple yet challenging. All the benefits mentioned are available to children as long as parents follow one simple rule: Let children solve their own problems. To many parents, the idea of leaving their children to suffer through hardship alone is terrifying, but the truth is that the more problems you solve for
them, the less competent they become. Think about it. What does solving their problems
for them teach? That when the going gets tough, their parents will sort it all out, and everything will be fine. As adults, however, we know this couldn’t be further from the truth. So, next time your children come to you with a problem, give them the task of solving it themselves. Ask them, “What do you think we should do about that problem?” and refrain from giving any advice until they’ve come up with a few ideas of their own! Your guidance and encouragement will help them build confidence in their own problem-solving skills.
HOW REVOCABLE AND IRREVOCABLE TRUSTS OFFER DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SECURITY Choose the Right Trust For You
We know that estate planning terms aren’t the simplest to understand. That is why we share as much information and as many resources as possible with our clients. One question we are often asked is what is the difference between a revocable and irrevocable trust? While both trusts allow you to organize and transfer your assets, there are significant differences that you should know before deciding on one or the other. What is a Revocable Trust? Like a will, you have every right to change the terms of a revocable trust without any official reason or request as long as you are considered competent. This type of trust is the most flexible, as you always have the option to add or remove beneficiaries and assets. However, revocable trusts are considered part of your taxable estate. This means that the assets in this trust are open to estate taxes once you pass away. Another factor to consider is that revocable trusts can be susceptible to creditor claims and lawsuits against the trust’s creator (also known as the grantor). What is an Irrevocable Trust? Unlike a revocable trust, an irrevocable trust cannot be easily altered. It will take either an agreement signed by all the beneficiaries or a judge’s approval. While this type of trust is not as common because of its strict nature, it is a smart option for those with a considerable amount of assets they would not want their loved ones to pay estate taxes on. Not only are they not
considered taxable estates, but irrevocable trusts are also safe from certain creditor claims.
The Key Difference You can probably guess the main difference due to the names.
While a revocable trust can be altered and revoked at any time by the grantor, an irrevocable trust can only be modified with a court order or an agreement among all the beneficiaries. Yet, both trusts are sound options for those looking to gift their estate without undergoing the probate process.
If you know someone who may want to determine which trust best suits them and their estate, they can contact our knowledgeable team at 317-726-1714 .

For many, their first taste of freedom is purchasing their first car. It’s an exciting milestone and a huge financial decision.
To help make the process easier and ensure you know what to expect, here’s a guide for parents and teens when purchasing their first vehicle.
Establish a budget. What can you afford? Today, the price of a new set of reliable and safe wheels is high. Even the cheapest new vehicle on the market is upwards of $15,000. Determine if a new or used car fits your price range and whether or not financing is a smart option. Pro Tip: Check out vehicle listings on Facebook, Craigslist, and OfferUp — sometimes, you can land a great deal. Just be sure to do your research and bring a friend along when you test drive the vehicle, for both safety reasons and another opinion. Research and weigh your options. The industry is vast! After you’ve established how much you are able to spend, you can begin to do your homework and find a car with the features that fit your needs. Pro Tip: Some questions to ask yourself are what will your vehicle be used for, how much commuting will you be doing, what are some necessary features, and how much space do you need? Don’t skip the test drives. A test drive is essential, especially when purchasing your first vehicle. During this check for roadworthiness, you will see that each car drives differently. It’s important to get a feel for how each one handles and rides.

Brian Recalls a Perfect Halloween Night With the Colts
When October rolls around, most people are planning for Halloween parties, movie marathons, and their choice of costume, but some of us are instead neck-deep in football season! While I have plenty of Halloween memories that are near to my heart, I will never forget one when the Colts were playing that Oct. 31 night. The orange leaves were falling, and my brother had come to town, and there is nothing better than seeing your family after time apart. This was back when my son, Zach, was still trick-or-treating, so despite the Colts game being on, my brother and I hit the neighborhood streets to follow Zach in his candy escapades. We would never miss Zach’s Halloween trek from door to door, and the crisp weather made it a perfect October day from dusk to night. Zach was more than pleased to show off his Peyton Manning costume! Besides the fact it was a perfect autumn night with my brother and son, the Colts game could be heard from nearly every house on our block. As we passed by each front door, we could listen to the game’s announcers and keep up to date on the Colts’ performance. With the sounds of the football game, neighbors cheering, and kids trick-or- treating, it was the perfect scene for an ideal Halloween. Now, my son is all grown up, and we no longer knock on each door for candy. While times have indeed passed, I still hold onto memories like these. What are your favorite Halloween memories? If your children are grown, do you miss the bygone days of trick-or-treating? We want to know all your cherished Halloween moments, so please share next time you come to our office!
