The President’s Agenda
ConstitutionPartyOfWisconsin.com
By Andrew Zuelke, Constitution Party of Wisconsin August 2024 We hear all the time about the president’s agenda and that the other party in Congress is “undermining” or “blocking” his agenda, keeping him from suc- ceeding and hurting the
rest of us are con- cerned, sheriffs don’t have agendas, they have duties we expect them to carry out and en- force ordinances and laws. In Article II, Sec- tion 1 of the US Constitution, the lead paragraph reads, “The execu- tive Power shall be vested in a Presi- dent of the United States of America. He shall hold his
country. So, the other party should always vote ‘yes’ for what a sitting president wants, even against their own beliefs, or are they “hurting the country?” Of course, presidential candidates are asked by voters about their positions on the issues and it is important to know candi- dates’ views. Fair enough. But the presi- dent – also governor and mayor – are executive positions, not legislative ones. Presidents don’t make laws; they faithfully execute the laws passed by Congress. Why do we never hear talk about an elected sheriff’s agenda or that members of a city council or county board voting oppo- site on issues the sheriff campaigned on are “obstructing the sheriff’s vision?” Is it because a sheriff carries a gun and badge that we see him differently than a presi- dent? Both take an oath to uphold and de- fend the same Constitution. As far as the
tion and the sitting president’s party has the majority in the House of Representa- tives. The president hears from an incum- bent party member that he facing tough opposition from the other party’s candi- date. The Representative also says that the largest employer in his district (let’s call it the ACME Tool and Dye Company), is plan- ning to lay off 2,000 of their 10,000 em- ployees. This will hurt the local economy and the incumbent’s efforts to win re-elec- tion. The president knows he needs this Congressional district to help his party stay in the majority, so he travels to that district to stump for his fellow party member. Standing in a park across the street from the Acme Tool and Dye’s corporate head- quarters, the President says, “Let me be clear to the ACME executives, you are not laying off those 2,000 workers. I am the President of the United States. I forbid it. It is not going to happen.” Guess what? After the president is done shaking his finger at the ACME corporate building and the executives working within it, those 2,000 workers will get laid off any- way. The president can’t stop that. It is true that excessive regulations can to an extent harm industries and a president signing business-friendly legislation into law and opposing tax increases can help the econ- omy, but he can’t tell a company what they can or can’t do with their workforce. Presi- dents don’t create jobs. Job creation and the economy are impor- tant. But when was the last time you heard Democrats and Republicans defending their voting records on the Bill of Rights, not only their failure to vote “No!” and veto unconstitutional laws and unconstitutional spending, but they themselves drafting of unconstitutional legislation and spending not authorized in Article 1: Section 8? Many Americans harbor this belief that one good president in the White House will singlehandedly create an economic boom and just one bad president will wreck us. As I have written before, if America is so weak that one wrong person in the White House can destroy America, that we “can’t survive four more years of this person in of- fice” then America is living on borrowed time. We are just one bad president away from losing it all. We need a lot more focus on each member of Congress and their pro- posed legislation and voting records on is- sues and less emphasis on a president’s so-called “agenda” and “vision for America.”
Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same term, be elected as follows” The amendment continues, explaining how presidents are elected, about having to be a natural-born citizen, the minimum age he must be to serve, and so on. Also, every election year, we get to hear about how the president’s role is to “create jobs” and “grow the economy.” Where is that language in Article II? In every presidential election, if the econ- omy is doing well, we get to hear from that president’s party that America is doing well because of their president’s great economic policies and you should re-elect him. Or, if
the economy is strug- gling, we are told by the current president seeking re-election that it’s not his fault, that he’s still trying to fix the damage caused by the other party’s president and his years of failed economic policies. So, individual Rep- resentatives and Sen- ators bear none of the blame for a bad econ- omy or they can do nothing to stop a sit- ting president from doing anything he wants economically? So, President Biden could solely order the printing of more money and cause massive inflation? Congress is powerless to stop him? So, there are no checks and balances between the three branches of government any- more? By the way, how is the impeach- ment inquiry into Biden going, Republi- cans? And former President Trump cre- ated all those jobs by himself? I think the business owners across America might have had a little say in that. Presidents don’t create jobs. Imagine it’s a mid-term elec-
