Revealing the Truth About Islam The Mystery of the Missing Verse From The Qur’an
By Usama Dakdok August 2024
However, Chapter 1 only has six verses. How did Muslim scholars fix this problem? It is very simple. They actually made the statement “In the name of Allah the merciful, the merciful” into verse 1, and by doing so, now they have seven verses in Chapter 1 instead of six. That is simply a fabrication, not an interpretation, of Qur’an
and he had not corrected him. They carried their dispute to Mohammad… the prophet endorsed the man’s claim … Mohammad explained, ‘All the modes of reciting are correct as long as you do not turn a statement of mercy into one on wrath and vice-versa.’” (Abu-Jaf’ar Muhammad b. Jarir Al Tabari, Tasfir Vol. 3, p. 148 507). These variations caused strife
I was asked the following ques- tion which I will answer in this article. “In the translations of the Qur’an that I have seen, including the official website of Saudi Ara- bia, there are 7
among early Muslims. Dispute arose about who had the “superior” version of the Qur’an. In response, Muslims claim that Caliph Uthman ordered the creation of a single Qur’an and had all other copies burned. This burning of the Qur’ans is part of the history of the collection of the Qur’an according to Muslim scholars. Now we know that the Qur’an, which we call the Uthmanic Qur’an, is a fabri- cation of Caliph Uthman and not the seven Qur’ans which Muslims had during the life of Mohammed. Now you know why I did not number the opening statement “In the name of Allah the merciful, the merciful” as
verses in chapter one. The first verse, ‘Bismallah,’ is left out in your trans- lation. I’m curious to know why this particular verse was left out?” Below is my reply to this question. First of all, the statement “In the name of Allah the merciful, the mer- ciful” is written in Chapter 1. How- ever, I removed the number 1 in front of it in order to match the rest of the Qur’an except for Chapter 9. Why did I do this? It is because “Allah, the merciful, the merciful” changed his mind about his mercy. As a matter of fact, he and his prophet Mohammed are oath break- ers. They made covenants to not en-
15:87. Now, let me give you the real interpretation of Qur’an 15:87 which Muslims do not like to talk about. In the hadith (Mohammed’s sayings), we learn the following. Mohammed stated: “two an- gels had come to him. One said, ‘Recite the Qur’an in one form.’ The other advised Mo- hammed to ask for more than this.” That was re- peated several times until finally the first angel said, “Very well. Recite it in seven forms.” The Prophet said, “Each of the forms is grace-giving, protecting, so long as you do not terminate a punishment verse with an expression of mercy, or vice-versa...” (p.148-149 Abu Ja'far Muham- mad b. Jarir al Tabari, “Tafsir,” p. 32). From the time I was a young child, I was taught by Muslims that there was only one Qur’an in the Arabic language and that it was pure and had never been changed or corrupted since it had been received by Mohammed by Angel Jibreel. It was collected in book form just after the death of Mohammed under the leadership of the first suc- cessor, Abu Bakr. So early Muslims collected the Qur’an from the different materials it had been written upon such as papyrus, flat stones, palm leaves, shoulder blades, ribs of animals, pieces of leather, and wooden boards, as well as “from the hearts of men” which is rote memorization. This is a problem because many of those who memo- rized the Qur’an died during the War of Apostacy. If that was the case, why were there different Qur’ans during Mohammed’s life? “A man recited a passage of the Qur’an in the presence of Omar, who corrected him. The man, upset, claimed to have recited for the prophet
verse 1. The question we must ask here is how many Qur’ans do we really have in the Arabic lan- guage? In Hatun Tash’s article, “More than One Qur’an,” she asked the right questions on this topic. “(1) Why do we find 37 different Qur’ans today? (2) Why can we find 93,264 differences be- tween today’s Arabic Qur’ans?” Hatun continued, “for Muslims to back up their claims, they need to provide a perfect 7th century manuscript of the Qur’an, compiled during the time of Uthman (forensically tested and peer re- viewed), which includes every verse of Chapters 1 to 114, and is identical to the Hafs Qur’an (dated 9th c.) which is read in Britain today, and there should be no other copies which disagree with it anywhere in the world today.” On the other hand, when we examine the Holy Bible in its original languages, we know for cer- tain that the early copies of the originals, which are numbered in the thousands, are in agree- ment. The same is true of new discoveries. For example, the Dead Sea Scrolls, dating back to the time of Jesus, is a perfect match to the Old Tes- tament which we have in our Bible today, only missing the book of Esther. Additionally, parch- ments which have recently been discovered, dat- ing back to the early first century, are, once again, a perfect match to the Bible that we have in our hands today. gage in war with the Christians, Jews, and others who lived in Mecca while Mohammed and his early Muslim followers were living in Medina, but since Mohammed now had 10,000 thug followers, he decided to cancel his oath and kill all infidels as stated in Qur’an 9:1-5. Therefore, the state- ment “in the name of Allah the merciful, the mer- ciful” is no longer reality in Islam. I chose not to do that because the original Qur’an did not have numbers or punctuation, so the statement is there. Now, let me share with you the qur’anical rea- son why I did not include that statement “in the name of Allah the merciful, the merciful” as verse 1. It is because of Qur’an 15:87 which states: “And indeed, we have given you seven of the math n and the great Qur’an.” The word “math n ” in Qur’an 15:87 is a non- Arabic word of possible Aramaic origin which means “repeated.” Muslim scholars’ interpreta- tion of that verse is a mystery. Why? It is because Muslim scholars disagreed about the interpreta- tion of this verse. Some said it is the seven longest chapters in the Qur’an - Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and combined 8 and 9 together as one chapter to make a long chapter. This is propa- ganda and nonsense, especially since we know that Chapter 9 used to be as large as Chapter 2. Other scholars chose chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 because 10 is bigger than 8 and 9, which is another propaganda statement. Other scholars said that what Allah meant by Qur’an 15:87 ac- tually is Qur’an Chapter 1. After all, Muslims re- peat the recitation of Chapter 1 seventeen times a day in their five daily prayers.
