DIRECTOR’S LETTER

Dear San Bernardino,

QUICK UPDATES

As the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, I am thrilled to share with you our latest activities guide, filled with exciting programs, events, and updates that reflect our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our beloved city. It is crucial for us to address our plans to address the Supreme Court decision involving the case Grants Pass v Johnson, which considered whether the prohibition of camping in public places by cities was considered cruel and unusual punishment. The city has released a statement “The ruling does not affect the current injunction. The City of San

Bernardino is under restricting its ability to address encampments. So, despite the ruling, the City remains prohibited from performing encampment cleanups. We continue to work to have the injunction lifted or end the case and expect to have a resolution very soon.” In addition to these updates, our community centers are bustling with a variety of programs designed for all ages. From youth sports leagues to special events, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check out the full schedule inside this guide.

Fall and Winter are a special time in San Bernardino, and we have a fantastic lineup of events planned for you and your family:

Drought friendly landscaping added to Hernandez Center.

Farmers Market: Every Tuesday in downtown on Court Street, farmers from the IE region bring fresh fruits, veggies, and specialty items for all to enjoy. A great place for lunch and a fabulous way to go from farm to plate with colorful and tasty food!

Spooktacular Halloween Event: Join us for a night of spooky fun, including costume contests, trick-or-treating, and more.

Veterans Day Event: We honor and celebrate our veterans with a special ceremony and festivities. Miracle on Court Street Holiday Fun: Kick off the holiday season with a magical celebration featuring holiday lights, music, and activities for all ages. Additionally, don’t miss out on our Winter Break Camps and Programs, offering a variety of engaging activities to keep the kids entertained and active during the school break. Our team is dedicated to providing you with exceptional recreational opportunities and memorable experiences. We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at our parks, community centers, and events.

Dodger Dream Fields are now open!

Color beautification at Lytle Creek Park.

Thank you for being an integral part of our community.

A DAY TO REMEMBER

OUR CULTURES CONNECTED! The “Festival: Where Our Cultures Connect” was a vibrant celebration of diversity and community spirit, attracting over 9,500 attendees. The festival featured a rich tapestry of cultural performances, art exhibits, and culinary delights, showcasing the unique traditions of our multicultural community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, whose generous support made this event possible. Special thanks to our community partners and the talented artists who provided incredible performances and exhibits, enriching the festival experience for all. This event was a collaborative effort with multiple city departments, notably the Downtown Beautification Tiger Team and the Parks and Recreation staff, who worked tirelessly to ensure the festival’s success. Additionally, we were supported by over 200 dedicated volunteers whose enthusiasm and hard work were instrumental in making the festival a memorable occasion. We invite all community members to check the events calendar in the centerfold of our program. There’s something for everyone, so bring your family and join us in celebrating our shared cultural heritage. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

ARBOR EARTH DAY 2024

This Arbor Earth Day was special as staff, volunteers, partners, and residents united to revitalize one of our local community gardens. Participants engaged in sustainable practices with a mulch and compost giveaway, promoting organic gardening and waste reduction, and proper disposal of motor oil and filters to prevent environmental contamination. The community garden revitalization project fostered a sense of ownership and pride, creating a beautiful space for gardening, socializing, and recreation, thus strengthening community bonds. Collaboration with UCR, Burrtec, and Urban Conservation Corps showcased the power of community and institutional partnerships, aiming for positive change. We look forward to next year’s Arbor Earth Day community event!

The San Bernardino Certified Farmers Market officially turns one on October 8th ! Join the party as we celebrate this exciting milestone with giveaways and raffles to mark our first anniversary. Our Certified Farmers Market will continue to offer our community a variety of healthy meals and fresh produce every Tuesday from 8:00am to 1:00pm at Court Street Square 349 North E Street.
