ELSA GIBBS LOCKERT
Local artist, Elsa Lockert, has brought Cheatham County history to life on canvas, using old photographs and memories of landscapes and landmarks. Elsa’s art adorns the walls of many homes and businesses. In 1985, she produced a calendar, celebrating “Homecoming ‘86”, featuring her paintings. Although with some college courses and private instruction, Elsa considers herself self-taught. Mrs. Lockert began painting years ago to pass time while her husband, Jimmy Lockert, attended law school. Today, at the lively age of 92, Elsa continues her painting and other artwork at her home in Ashland City. She, too, is also a local treasure, and we thank her for allowing us to use her art in this book.
