THE KING’ S BUSINESS
Oh, the disappointment as the answer has to be made, “ No, we haven’t any.” Here was a real need. A great many tracts and portions o f Scripture had been given out, and also all the New Testaments available at the Biola Book Room, but here were three hundred who wanted Bibles, and knew what they wanted. Then a young fellow came to the worker, saying |in broken English “Have yf>u a church in Lima, Peru? I am not a Christian, but like to hear about Jesus.”' W e had to tell him that there was not one church there, nor a single missionary, though hun dreds o f Japanese are going there ever^ month, and hundreds of thousands are already in that land. Then the worker remembered that he had a few New Testaments In his'grip, and gave the young fellow one. He was almost afraid to take it, it was such a big
present. Immediately there was trouble, for the others saw what he had, and all wanted one, and as the bag was opened and the worker stooped to get out the five or six he had, lj.e saw every one right up close stooping down and as many hands as the bag could hold, in it; but only four' were successful—the rest had to go with out. Can you imagine what that means? The workers went home happy, yes, but very, very sad, too. They have won a warm and lasting place in our hearts—those poor, heathen people for whom Christ died, and our hearts have gone with them to yonder friendless, priest-ridden land. We are praying for a man and the money for his support,' who can go down there, gather into a church the seventy-five con verts God has given us amongst “them, establishing a center for a great work for Christ in that ,needy, neglected land.
