That was-the beginning. Next week he was again at the Club; before we 'parted, he ‘came through.’ W e have been giving him the milk o f the Word, encouraging his heart; backed.up by the prayers o f the Fishermen boys. The battles are going to be hard and heavy and fierce. Remem ber this boy, “ God is able ” and thfc moth er’s prayers these many years must pre vail for a life o f absolute yieldedness. W e are finding that “mothers’ prayers” are indeed bringing the boys to our Lord Jesus in these troublous times. One blue eyed lad from bonnie Scotland drifted into one o f , oUr meetings, oh such a w reck! How the mother’s heart would have bled had she seen him then. His parents, in sweet fellowship with God in the land of the heather, had brought him up -in the nurture and admonition o f the Lord, but he had spent all in riotous living when God brought him in that night, and as the old sweet message rang out, it gripped, and he arose and came. The Spirit of God brought back vividly the old memories, revived the Psalms’ o f David and Scrip ture portions memorized as a lad, and with tears o f real contrition and repentance, he came. My, what a change! The last time we saw him he had just written a letter to that dear old mother in Glasgow, tell ing her how God had at last saved him. Wouldn’t we love to look over her shoul der as she reads that letter and see the joy, and then get a glimpse o f that greater joy in the presence o f the angels in Heaven. W e' had another great big specimen o f a man come back to the Father after twelve long years o f wandering. Gould you have seen the light in his face you would have known the great joy which floods the soul when one has the privilege o f leading a soul to Jesus. Long after the meeting closed that night, we stood jon the street corner telling it over and over, again, ring ing the changes as the precious lights and colors flashed out, revealing the altogether lovely One. Our last glimpse o f him as we boarded our car in the midnight hour
was his shining face, with hand uplifted pointing to our next meeting place “ in the air.” L .--.t-v .T.--; •' The past month has brought much bless ing as we have been permitted to see tired, discouraged men turning to God.. The other night in speaking to a man we were refreshed to meet one who really consid ered himself unworthy. “ You don’t think He would have anything to do with me now, do you ? Why I’m all down and out.” Can you imagine the eagerness with which we could tell him that “this man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.” W e never had harder work in getting home that night. In his new-found joy_he lit erally held on to us. Oh, it is simply won derful how God has given us a share in His great work o f gathering out the lost ones for whom our Saviour died. These treasures are lying all along life’s path way; if we are but in touch, how gladly He will use us. We had one hard morning last week, tramping in the mud and rain, looking for -open doors to hold more shop meetings, but there seemed no room for Jesus in the machine and manufacturing places, and returning rather depressed over this, was crossing the park when we noticed one o f our boys from the car barns lounging on a bench, disconsolate like so many mote whom we are constantly running across. He had drifted for years away from God. It was like water to a thirsty soul, to tell out the tender love o f the One who ever abideth faithful, who cannot deny Himself, and in the refreshment which the Spirit imparted to us it 'fell on his tired heart. As he gripped the worker’s hand in part ing, he said, “ Brother,,this little time has counted more than any five years in all my life. I shall never be the same man.” So “ He feedeth them according to the integ rity o f His own heart, and guideth them by the skillfulness o f His hands.” We both forgot our weariness, for had not Jesus Himself drawn near, and beginning at Moses and all the prophets had expounded unto us in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself?
