THE KING’S BUSINESS WORK OF THE BIBLE WOMEN

Mrs. T. C. Horton, Supt.

W E HAVE been greatly blessed, in the C, E. Society o f the church where I am serving, fo t the past two weeks, in street meetings near the church. 4 am playing the little organ and afterward, I' distribute tracts, doing personal work with the women that gather. The attendance at the meetings is good, though we are so far frorn the center o f the city. God has given us a soul each evening, for which we render, thanks; W e all feel that if the people who so need the Lord will not come in, we must go out after them. Pray for these meetings. Last year I met and dealt with a woman, perhaps forty-five years o f age. She said she had .given her heart to Christ and believed she was a Christian, though she had never joined any church. I visited her a number of times, gave*-' her a Bible and helped her as well as I coujd, yet did not feel that she was right with God. „Last April was the last time I talked with her. This week: I was passing her home, on the pther side o f the street, when God laid it upon my heart to cross oyer to the house and see her. I found her very much changed, with lines of care and dis couragement marking her face. She told me she was investigating Eddyism Science. A ftef a long, definite, talk over the W ord she cried “ I see it—I see God’s plan and I never did see it this way before.” The Word of God, planted in her heart months before, had done the work in her heart, the eyes o f her understanding were opened and she saw Jesus, as the sacrifice for her sins. Her whole soul seemed to respond to the truth, and her quick con fession o f Him, as her all-sufficient Sav iour, transformed her face, as she declared her -purpose o f serving Him. From her I visited Mrs.------— on whom I had been "requested to call. To my surT ,

prise she said she had been praying for a Christian friend, or some one, to whom she could testify for Christ, whom she had learned to love. I gave her the name o f the woman who had just ‘ accepted Christ, and she promised, gladly, to go and see her at once. I longed to go with her to hear those two babes in Christ, as they spake o f Him. On a certain afternoon, I was led to the home o f a young woman, who was soon to become a mother. She felt that she had accepted Christ and was a Christian, but .after a little conversation, we discovered she had .only a well-established head-belief that there was such a man as Jesus and that He died for sin. She'was hoping for salvation through good works. After a long talk together, and she saw from Rev. 3 :20 that she must open the door o f her heart for Him, she comprehended it all and I believe rose from her knees a child o f God. I asked her if she had given the child to God, and she replied that she had not, She promised to do so, together with her husband. I expect to help her, as I can, to grow in the grace and knowledge o f the Lord. Pray for a man, weak in body, that he may be kept by the power o f God from a drink habitr contracted by the use o f liquor as medicine. Pray that the hand o f God may be so magnified in supplying the needs o f a family that it may result in the saving o f the husband and father. Pray that the quickening power o f God’s Word may act on the heart o f a man and wife who are really interested in the Scrip ture, studying it in the class each, week, and nearly if not every day in the home. Pray for two women in great sorrow, where it seems mainly a losing battle, that their faith fail not.
