The Alcoa Sessions brings together 19 musicians from New Orleans, Toronto, New York and Seattle, Trinidad, Martinique, and Cuba, to imagine the musical experience aboard the Alcoa Cruises, steaming from New Orelans through the Caribbean from 1949-1959. Shake the Rum features 11 scorching calypsos and beguines, guaranteed to melt the ice in your drink! Its pre-release was named one of the top 50 Louisiana albums of 2021 in OffBeat Magazine. www.charliehalloran.com SPONSORED BY MARK & VAL JANSEN New Orleans trombonist and bandleader CHARLIE HALLORAN offers traditional New Orleans music and retro Caribbean vibes. With nearly nightly gigs in New Orleans, you can't go too long before running into Charlie. He is one of the most ubiquitous hornmen in the city. Twice named a rising star in Downbeat Magazine and recognized numerous times as one of New Orleans’ top trombonists in Offbeat Magazine, Halloran maintains a busy recording schedule including Jon Cleary’s Grammy winning Go-Go Juice and follow-up Dyna-mite , and Maria Muldaur’s Grammy-nominated Don’t You Feel My Leg . Charlie has released 5 albums under his own name and appeared on albums with The Squirrel Nut Zippers, John Boutte, Rickie Lee Jones, Pokey LaFarge and countless others. Charlie’s horn is also in the background of several films and television programs produced in New Orleans.

Originally assembled for remote recordings during the COVID lockdown - THE NEW ORLEANS NIGHT OWLS is an allstar collaboration assembled by drummer/band leader extraordinaire and Syncopated Times writer Hal Smith. The New Orleans Night Owls’ wide-ranging repertoire includes 1920s jazz of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, Freddie Keppard, Johnny Dodds and the Halfway House Orchestra; Classic Ragtime; and stomps and blues from the Traditional Jazz Revival circa 1944-1964. This stellar ensemble consists of leader Hal Smith on drums, T.J. Muller on cornet, Dan Barrett on trombone, Ryan Calloway on clarinet, Kris Tokarski on piano, Bill Reinhart on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Sam Rocha on string bass. This band could pass for a creative New Orleans jazz band of the classic era. All of the musicians are excellent, play ensembles with coherent heat, and their solos are consistently rewarding. www.halsmithmusic.com SPONSORED BY JACK & BARB MC COWN
