JONATHAN STOUT AND HIS CAMPUS FIVE , featuring Hilary Alexander, is the nation’s premier swing dance band. Showcasing the small-group sound of the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Campus Five is the most danceable swing band anywhere. The 7-piece Campus Five captures the true sound of the Swing Era, with all the energy and excitement that inspired millions to dance. Influences include the Benny Goodman Sextet, Artie Shaw's Grammercy Five, Count Basie's Kansas City Six, and the Harlem- based small groups of Illinois Jacquet, Cootie Williams, Coleman Hawkins, and Hot Lips Page. Both founders (Hilary and Jonathan) have been dedicated Swing dancers for over 25 years, and the relationship between Swing music and Swing dance informs all aspects of the Campus Five. Song selection, tempo, song length and feel are all chosen with danceability in mind. The Campus Five’s five albums, Jammin’ the Blues (2003), Crazy Rhythm (2004), Moppin’ and Boppin ’ (2007), Spreadin’ Rhythm Around (2016), and Hummin’ to Myself (2021), are favorites of Swing DJs and Swing Dance Instructors all over the globe. The Campus Five have been featured at many of the premier Swing dance events around the world, and are known for their unparalleled competition music, which inspires dancers to new heights. The Campus Five has been featured on ABC's "The Bachelorette" (2016), and on Warner Brothers TV's "Ellen" (2004). www.campusfive.com SPONSORED BY JOHN & MARY STUART FRIDAY 5:30 pm VETERANS MEMORIAL 8:30 pm SEQUOIA CENTER Jonathan Stout's Rugcutters SATURDAY 4:00 pm SEQUOIA CENTER 8:30 pm SEQUOIA CENTER Jonathan Stout's Tribute to the King of Swing featuring Dave Bennett SUNDAY 6:00 pm EAGLE HOUSE

The ST. LOUIS STEADY GRINDERS are a piano/vocal duo that specialize in the low down blues of the 1920s and '30s. Featuring Valerie Kirchhoff (vocals) and Ethan Leinwand (piano), the pair have been entertaining audiences with their uniquely St. Louis style of blues since 2014. They have performed across the United States and Europe, from an Alaskan saloon to a storied Viennese jazz club. They have headlined blues and boogie-woogie festivals in France, England and Austria, and are regulars of the ragtime and early jazz circuits in the US. Ethan Leinwand is a St. Louis based pianist and preservationist. Through performance and teaching he has gained recognition as one of the world's leading exponents of barrelhouse blues piano. A mainly self taught pianist, he was born and raised in Middletown, CT and has lived in New Orleans and New York City. He moved to St. Louis in 2014 to connect with the city's deep piano roots and thriving traditional music community. Valerie Kirchhoff is a vocalist and bandleader born and raised in St. Louis. She has been performing professionally for over 15 years and is a beloved staple of the local music scene. Valerie grew up singing in church and choir, but her love of older music led her to want to start her own band. She champions the female blues singers of the '20s and '30s, with a particular focus on the lesser known singers from St. Louis.

"Ethan and Valerie have a certain brash tenderness that is very much appealing ... and even when they perform songs that are by today’s standards “ancient,” they seem full of emotion and fun." - Michael Steinman JAZZ LIVES
