One of the great jazz stylists of the trombone, Southern California son DAN BARRETT is a trombonist, cornetist, composer and Grammy- nominated arranger. Barrett played lead trombone and was a featured soloist in the last bands of Swing-era icons Benny Goodman and Buck Clayton. He has played Carnegie Hall five times. Dan began playing trombone at the age of eleven and the cornet shortly after. He fell in love with jazz in high school, learning to play from much older New Orleans musicians who had relocated to the Los Angeles area. In 1983 Dan moved to New York City to play in the Widespread Depression Orchestra. He was a frequent guest at Eddie Condon's jazz club, where Benny Goodman first heard him play. Shortly thereafter Goodman asked Dan to join what would be the King of Swing's last orchestra. Barrett has recorded for Concord Records, Arbors Records, and his own Blue Swing Recording label, among others. He has composed and arranged theme music for television and film. He's played both valve and slide trombone for many motion pictures such as Cotton Club and Brighton Beach Memoirs ; plus three Woody Allen films including the award-winning Wild Man Blues which documents a three-week European tour with Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band.
