AnglicareSA Annual Report 2024 - 2025

Post Care Pathways gardening workshop October marked a significant milestone in our Post Care Pathways Greening Project with an engaging and heartwarming gardening workshop that brought together a village of supporters.

The collaborative event saw leading South Australian gardening expert Sophie Thomson and Nat from Green Adelaide work alongside young people aged 18 to 25 with a lived care experience who were all keen to learn about how to grow their own food and build a space for community and connection. With wicking beds installed by Adelaide Hills Vegie Gardens, and filled with soils and compost from Jeffries, everyone was keen to get their hands dirty and plant a range of seedlings donated by Bickleigh Vale Farm including lettuce, Asian greens, chilli, tomato, spring onion, strawberry, coriander, and parsley. Green Adelaide and Believe Housing Australia have provided funding for the project which aims to provide an enhanced green space that will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the young residents.

Our Post Care Pathways Greening Project, including residents Xander and Hailie, received national media coverage through ABC TV, radio, and online

National awards for AnglicareSA The impact of our programs and initiatives was recognised on the national stage in September, winning two of the five categories at the annual Anglicare Australia Awards.

Presented at the Anglicare Australia Conference, the Reconciliation category was awarded to our Foster Care Services team, which facilitated a culturally immersive camp for First Nations children in care and their families in the northern Flinders Ranges.

Working alongside the team at Iga Warta, the camp on the land of the Adnyamathanha People – People of the Rocks – is part of a strong commitment to First Nations children to ensure that no child leaves AnglicareSA care without culture. The camp was also honoured in the same week, taking out the Active Efforts Award at the 2024 South Australian Child Protection Awards. Meanwhile, our innovative Post Care Pathways program took out the Category for Excellence. Post Care Pathways provides a housing-first option that focuses on supporting young care leavers between the ages of 18 and 25 years who are experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or are at risk of homelessness, during and/or following their transition from the formal care system. Regional provider ac.care, which we are proud to partner with, won an award in the Partnership category.
