AnglicareSA Annual Report 2024 - 2025

Solidarity with those touched by suicide AnglicareSA employees and community members came together on 23 November for our annual Walk Through the Darkness and into the Light event to remember, raise awareness, and support those affected by suicide.

Beginning in 2009, the event marks International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day and brings together the community in memory of a loved one, to support others bereaved by suicide, and to focus on suicide prevention. Hosted by our StandBy Support After Suicide team, the day was a powerful and emotional tribute to

those lost by suicide, and included a walk along the Tennyson and West Beach beaches as dawn broke. StandBy Support After Suicide is a national postvention service offered in South Australia by AnglicareSA.

Celebrating child-friendly businesses in the southern suburbs

Eighteen businesses in Adelaide’s southern suburbs were recognised for their child- friendly practices at the 2024 Communities for Children Child-Friendly Business Awards. The awards are run by the Communities for Children Onkaparinga Initiative, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, and facilitated by AnglicareSA. They recognise businesses in the City of Onkaparinga that support children and families by creating welcoming and respectful environments.

Each year, families and children are invited to nominate their favourite local child-friendly business for an award. This year, 31 businesses were nominated. There were 550 community votes received, delivering four ‘Excellence’ award winners, four ‘Achievement’ award winners and ten businesses who received ‘Encouragement’ certificates. Part of the prize includes promotion by Communities for Children of all award recipients as child-friendly businesses. The winners were presented with their awards at an evening event in November at the Port Noarlunga Surf Life Saving Club.
