2024 2nd Quarter - Crimes Against Persons Crimes Against Persons increased 4.2% in Second Quarter 2024 with 4,160 offenses compared to 3,991 offenses in second Quarter 2023. There was an 8.3% decrease in Murder and Nonnegligent Manslaughter. There was a 150% increase in Human Trafficking, a 16.4% increase in Kidnapping/Abduction, and a 9.3% increase in Sex Offense, Forcible.

Homicide offenses decreased 8.3% in Second Quarter 2024 with 22 homicide victims compared to 24 in Second Quarter 2023.

Eight of the 22 homicides had unknown motives. There were four arguments/fights, four robberies of which three were related to narcotics. There were two domestic motives, two random motives, and one each listed as reckless/negligence and other motive.

Fifteen of the 22 homicides have suspects identified and have been filed.

Seven homicides occurred in Council District 2, five occurred in District 6, four occurred in District 5, three occurred in District 9, one each in Council Districts 3, 7, and 11. Council Districts 4, 8, and 10 each had zero.

Nineteen of the 22 homicides were by a firearm.

Homicide Prevention Strategies FWPD ’ s homicide prevention strategies involve various partnerships. Neighborhood Police Officers, the Victim Assistance Section, and One Safe Place provide outreach services to prevent domestic violence crimes that have the potential to turn into a homicide. In addition, the Homicide Unit works closely with the Crime Lab as policies have changed allowing for more timely entry of ballistic intelligence into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearm's (ATF) National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to more readily identify persons who may be involved in violent offenses. The Homicide Unit also continues to work with members of the Gang, Narcotics, and Robbery Units where other criminal activity may elevate to homicide.
