Judging by the excitement I witnessed, quite a few future marine scientists probably begin their journey right here in Juno Beach. Perhaps that’s Loggerhead’s greatest accomplishment. Visitors certainly arrive hoping to see sea turtles, but most leave with something much more valuable. ey gain a clearer understanding of how everyday choices can directly aect the health of our oceans. Something as simple as properly disposing of shing line, reducing single use plastics, lling in holes before leaving the beach, removing chairs and umbrellas at the end of the day, respecting marked nests, or keeping beachfront lighting turtle friendly all contribute to giving these remarkable animals a better chance at survival. For those looking to become even more involved, the opportunities are plentiful. Volunteers assist with educational programs, beach cleanups, special events, and countless behind the scenes eorts that keep the center operating. Donations support everything from advanced veterinary care and rehabilitation equipment to scientic research and public education. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps ensure that the next injured turtle has the same opportunity to recover and return home. As much as I enjoyed the exhibits, the hospital, and the educational programs, I kept nding myself thinking back to that quiet stretch of beach where a sea turtle disappeared beneath the waves. It’s easy to become distracted by our busy schedules, crowded highways, and endless stream of headlines. en a morning like this reminds you that another world has been quietly unfolding along Florida’s coastline all along.

Located within Loggerhead Park in Juno Beach, Loggerhead Marinelife Center welcomes visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged and directly support sea turtle rescue, rehabilitation, conservation, research, and education.
