She concludes that major Big Tech companies have increasingly restricted people’s freedom through digital technologies that guide their choices in voting, consumption and opinion- making, and in reshaping their relationships with individuals, communities, the market and the state. In light of this, the author offers a practical guide to resisting the dominance of algorithmic processes and finding a path toward liberation from the shackles of " digital slavery " . Drawing on her expertise in cybersecurity and the recommendations of leading experts in information engineering and digital ethics, de Rivera proposes a set of legislative, technical and methodological approaches to confront the hegemonic drive of the AI oligarchy – an oligarchy that thrives on the ongoing exploitation of users’ data across platforms and digital networks.
