REEHOLD, NJ – To- gether with the Board of Chosen Freehold- ers , the Monmouth County Planning Board presented three organizations with 2019 Planning Merit Awards at the Dec. 16 meeting. “The Planning Board recog- nized and honored three note- worthy recipients that have made important contributions to Monmouth County,” said Freeholder Lillian Burry , liai- son to the Division of Planning. “Through community outreach projects, housing redevelop- ment and conservation initia- tives, the Planning Board has honored an array of exceptional examples of planning for Mon- mouth County to remain the place you want to be.” The 2019 Merit Awards were presented to: CentraState , Freehold, in recognition of outstanding sus- tainability and environmental conservation. • CentraState installed a 3.94-megawatt DC solar car- port system to decrease its carbon footprint and increase self-sustainability. • Combined, the two solar installations generate 50% of the total electrical needs of the medical center. • The project uses 8,376 F

larger, more powerful 470-watt photovoltaic panels, producing more power in less physical space. This maximizes the amount of power that can be produced within the confines of CentraState’s physical foot- print. The Pedestrian Safety Demonstration Project , Red Bank, in recognition of out- standing partnership project to increase pedestrian safety and traffic calming. • The Pedestrian Safety Demonstration Project that took place in Red Bank at the intersection of Drs. James Parker Blvd. and South Bridge Ave. The project is a joint effort by the North Jersey Trans- portation Planning Authority, Sustainable Jersey, Borough of Red Bank and members of the Red Bank Green Team. • The project design utilized tactical urbanism, a short-term action for a long-term change, along with the design elements to be used that are not perma- nent and can be modified with ease. • A mural was painted in the middle of the intersection in anticipation that it will catch motorists’ attention and cause them to slow down, creating a positive distraction. • Eventually, plastic soft-

hit bollards would be used to replace the traffic cones, creating a more permanent installation. The Link at Aberdeen Sta- tion , Aberdeen, in recognition of outstanding redevelopment project and economic develop- ment. • The Link at Aberdeen Station is a mixed-use luxury apartment complex. The com- plex includes 227 apartment units spread over the 20 acres. There are seven layout options ranging from 442 to 1198 s/f. • The building that faces Atlantic Avenue contains first floor retail/commercial space with residential space above. The remaining four buildings contain well-appointed residen- tial units with finishes that in- clude custom cabinetry, quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. • Some of the complexes’ amenities offered to its resi- dents consist of an outdoor swimming pool with grilling areas, gated access/parking, a dog park and electric car charg- ing stations. • This project took an un- derdeveloped area adjacent to public transportation and cre- ated a mixed-use development to benefit local residents while welcoming new ones. 
